Line of Duty. gripping stuff.

As good as all the recent Scandi hits like The Bridge and Borgen.

Maybe a long walk in the Hindu Kush would do it?

Death In Paradise...

It's OK, I watch it if there's nothing else on but some people love it.

While I'm writing I can't remember if 'Broadchurch' was on the list- Broadchurch was AMAZING.

I don't think it is, but I'll update the list this weekend and check out some more series.

Mini t/j;

Can you get any of our soaps? Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale? That's proper English telly!!

I didn't see Corrie or Emmerdale for over ten years. I picked up on them again around two years ago and I was amazed to find that I could pick up on everything with ease. It's like "going home" for an hour a day and I'm as addicted as I ever was.

Another to add;

South Riding - set in 1934, with David Morissey (governer, walking dead) and Penelope Wilton (Downton) :)

Can't believe I forgot to list Poldark! Really, watch Poldark. *sigh*

Just read that the BBC has announced a remake, but the original was sooooooo good.

I agree that Broadchurch was superb. I found the first episode was harrowing, but the rest of the series made me glad I hadn't abandoned it at the first episode.

****Not Currently Available for Streaming on Netflix:***

This is the problem with a lot of the films and television series from overseas and why why we decided to keep our DVD subscription, in addition to the streaming. We decided that the extra cost was worth it, in terms of entertainment. (Especially since we almost never go out for the evening!)

The good news is that quite a lot of things we've watched on DVD do eventually turn up on the streaming service, as well.

Most of my favorites are already listed here. I think that only person mentioned "Morse" though, so I'd like to second it. Likewise, "Last Tango in Halifax".

If you are a "Downton Abbey" fan, you might be interested in a really old comedy series called "To the Manor Born". It was a huge hit when it first appeared, so I hope it has stood the test of time. It's about a widowed member of the Downton Abbey class,(played superbly by Penelope Keith) who is extremely snobbish, but left financially strapped and thus she has to sell up. She rents a small home from the estate's new owner, who has plenty of money, but not the "breeding". The comedy comes, of course, from the interactions between the two and the contrast between them.

Gabybaby, you're too young for this But those who are approaching the age when the body starts protesting about undue exertion, might enjoy "Waiting For God". It's a light-hearted series about two highly intelligent, independent thinkers, who are forced by health issues to move into a retirement community - to their intense frustration. The comedy stems from their anarchic exploits within the community and their refusal to sit down and join in inane activities, as good little retirement community residents are supposed to do. It's amusing, rather than hilarious. But I think that anyone whose head is considerably younger than his/her body will probably relate to the series, and to the bittersweet element therein.

The just added the second series of Bletchley Circle to Netflix in Canada.

Two series that I used to watch with my parents are All Creatures Great and Small and Good Neighbours. Haven't watched them in years but they were both quite funny.

Did anybody say Cranford? It was a mini-series; quite good!

We also liked the mini-series Island at War.
Both are period pieces.

And we liked Zen. It is about an Italian detective but it is a British production and stars Rufus Sewell (warning: there is an infidelity sub-plot).

Out of the ones people mentioned, our faves were:
The IT Crowd
Life on Mars
The Bletchley Circle
Inspector Lewis

Only Fools And Horses
Peep Show
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps
Goodnight Sweetheart
Misfits

Never looking back with longing. Always looking forward with hope.
