I can't tell if that's Alex Honnold but I think it's likely - start this at 2:30

Two questions:

1. How the hell did he get up there?
2. Who filmed it and what is THAT guy holding on to?

1. How the hell did he get up there?

Assuming that it's Alex Honnold (I think so) he's the greatest free solo climber in the world. He's climbed Half Dome in Yosemite in three hours with NO ropes - a climb that takes a very experienced quick climber at least all day.

2. Who filmed it and what is THAT guy holding on to?

He's done a piece for National G. and one for CBS/60 minutes (see link) that involved climbers as cameramen who rappelled down from the top to film him.

What's Honnold holding on to? Hope.

This is what he climbed in three hours (without ropes) - about 1,400 feet or a couple hundred feet taller than the Empire State Building:

That is crazy.

I'd either -
A. Fall after climbing 3ft up

or

B. Climber higher, get stuck, and sound like Flick (A Christmas Story) crying when his tongue gets stuck to the pole.

TR, the guy in the first photo is lying flat on the ground on a rock. The only way he will need insurance is if some giant bird craps on him.

Probably no insurance either ...

In his defense, if he messes up - he's not going to need insurance.
