That's OK, neither do the Cubs lately...*sad*

It's OK. I grew up being a Met's fan in the early 80's. 1986 was great when the won the World Series but the rest of the time - not so much.

I think it would be a great idea to take sisoon and plainsong up on dinner at their place on Friday night so we can all meet and greet.

The noon game on Saturday would be cool because we could all go out after that.

Would the locals be willing to talk to each other and maybe come up with a PM for known members about reasonable hotels/areas to stay in relationship to where we are talking about spending time? I know it's a few months to June but we will blink and it will be here.

Please PM me with the hotel and rates so I can see if we can make this happen. The prices that I am used to in Chicago are a bit over budget but I don't where we are thinking of staying - in town or in the burbs

I don't know how to set up the Yahoo group but I think there is a way to set up a private page on Facebook that you can then invite who you want to have access. That might be a way to do this rather than separate PM's.

I'd be more than willing to go out on a limb to start the group, if anyone else feels...mmmm...skeered?

I've been a little out if touch here. I let my input slide.

Just a question - some of what you mention may be out if budget for me. I'd probly bypass hotel to save money and stay with my mom. But I think cubs tickets may be expensive? Idk. Never been. Been to Peoria games. Anyhoo.... Can we pick and choose which activities to attend with the group? I think I saw ed debevics and a pedi proposal. Definitely maybe doable. Possible probable.

Typically the main event is a dinner out or at a members home. Other times tend to be open and in some cases like this there might be folks that organize an activity. I tend to do some thing when I visit a city like visit a landmark or museum. Sometimes others join me but it is just bonus time with other members. As for cubs tickets that weekend. The seats can be as cheap as $25 and go up to just over $90 and I can see how this might be out of budget. Come and join in for the dinner and pedi if there is a group that does that. Don't feel obligated to have to do everything.

For the record, Moo and I end up taking these things over accidentally. For a small fee.

I like the idea of dinners being set up, and the game can be optional - well, all of it can be optional. Usually not everybody can make it to everything.

I think the idea of a group is a great idea, but it seems to work especially well when the locals powwow and come up with an outline. Doesn't mean you HAVE to stay somewhere or HAVE to go to something, it just makes it easier for people who have never been. Usually things like small trips, breakfast etc get discussed at the event immediately prior.

(ETA: This said by the person who isn't able to give a final commitment until a few days before taking the trip.. but I can still help organize!! )

I was telling someone else, but I routinely get aftermarket Cubs tickets as low as $8/each when they suck...which will almost certainly be the case in June.

ETA: I'll keep an eye out once the season starts for some cheapies and keep everyone here posted.

One teensy request - no bleachers or nosebleeds.

Yeah, I don't do the bleachers.. Too many drnken obnoxious A-holes...as far as nosebleeds...mmmm.... I'm not sure...Wrigley isn't really that big. I sat at the tiptop row one time and could see just fine....but I'll take it into account, Jrazz.

I *LOVE* watching the cubs lose. (Cards fan ) Something just plain awesome about being at Wrigley, kicking back a brewski and chowing down on a Chicago style dog and watching the cubs be...well...the cubs.

Not F'book, I hope. I'd rather have Google tracking my every move than FB....

I think we need a planning committee - who's on it? Suggestion: me, Ascendant, Moo, Jrazz.

Anyone else want to volunteer? Do any of the people I've named want to back out?

The idea of saving money on Cubs tix is good, but that wouldn't get people seats together. I'll take on the task of calling the Cubs to see about group rates - but I'm ADD, so if you don't see a report soon, ping me.

The problem with deciding on a hotel location is that there are SOOO many activity options. Choosing a hotel could depend on what you want to do.

In the absence of firm plans, I think the safest location is around O'Hare, because travel to downtown or North 'burbs is pretty easy, and the lodgings range from medium to luxury.

So - we have a group that wants to go to a Cubs game, and a group that wants pedicures, and the 2 groups overlap.

What else - shopping, museums, architecture tours - Botanical Garden - other sights, other?

I think Moo already did some group tix research.

I'm all for the committee. Not everybody is comfortable with a identity revealing group convo so we can just set up an outline and then PM members the gist.

Cubs Group seating is available for parties of $15 or more. There is no price break over individual tickets.
