I hate Greek yogurt! Ugh. It has the consistency of Spackle and leaves this disgusting film on my tongue. The doctor is pushing me to eat it. I'm thinking of pushing my doctor off a cliff.

Put lots of crunchy stuff in it. I don't like to eat things without crunch, although I don't mind Greek yogurt alone in a pinch. Chobani Flips are great, they come with stuff. Greek yogurt definitely needs some doctoring if you are going to eat it on a consistent basis.

I second the Chobani Flips - but they are VERY high in sugar.

What about making overnight oatmeal with it? Oatmeal, yogurt, fresh fruit and seeds. Yummy!

Did your dr give you a reason why he/she thinks you should be eating it? If you need protein there are lots of other sources of that. If you need calcium there are many other sources of that too.

Personally I like greek yogurt but its just a food. Our bodies don't need greek yogurt, they need balanced nutrition. Might be worth finding out why your dr think greek yogurt is the end all be all and what your nutrition is really lacking. Then find nutritional alternatives.

Tred, the rum sounds great. Unfortunately I don't think my employers would appreciate it.

I would normally put granola in it but Dr says 'absolutely not'. My Dr suggested that I add Fiber One to "up the health factor". I in turn suggested that I just go outside and eat some sticks. Same difference.

I've tried almost all of the Greek yogurt brands and they all, in my opinion, suck.

Amazonia, I think I will try one of those overnight slow cooker oatmeal recipes, but the trick is not to use anything that will aggravate my AR. It is amazing the amount of healthy foods that can kick the acid reflux up. Maybe I'll make homemade granola bars. My DD8 loves them and healthy to boot.

Mlm, the recipe looks really good.

Sorry Rye, I didn't see your post before I responded to the others.

Ever since I was diagnosed with silent AR, my body has a hard time absorbing nutrients. There's a name for it but damned if I can remember it right now. Actually my body probably hasn't absorbed nutrients properly for a very long time.

So my Dr and nutritionist are trying to find various foods that my body can easily extract the nutrients out of. Unfortunately my body likes Greek yogurt and my taste buds hate it.

What about adding it into a protein smoothie? Then you could include some aloe vera gel that may help the AR.

It sounds like you may possibly have low stomach acid which would impede nutrient absorption, but also cause foods to ferment and produce gas in your stomach and lead to acid reflux. Medications for AR that cut stomach acid will impede nutrient absorption. Hopefully if you are on those you can wean yourself off as you heal.

Proper food combining would be really important. The book Body Ecology describes it well. Zinc carnosine, DGL is a form of the herb licorice that's helpful for AR.

I add a couple teaspoons of clove honey to mine and it makes all the difference in the world. Try it

Ah yes, you have quite the conundrum there.

You could always do what I did when I was a kid...pinch nose, swallow, drink a glass of water (I am assuming holding it in your mouth to spit out in the trash when mom and dad aren't looking isn't an option)

I love Greek Yogurt! I find the Muller strawberry to be very tasty, but you have to make sure to mix the fruit in, or it does have the bitter taste.

I also like Yopa! with the Dove chocolate shavings.

Chobani black cherry is good..

I sometimes mix in cheerios if I want to add a crunch texture.

Plain greek yogurt is a great substitute for sour cream, as well. It tastes just like sour cream on a baked potato.

My kids love Greek yogurt. They put all kinds of crap in it.

I can't stand the smell of it. And I like yogurt. Heck, I even MAKE yogurt. Or, I used to. Still have it around here somewhere. Hey, I wonder if you might make your own yogurt, Mack? Yogurt makers are really cheap and it's super easy to do.

I was reading the forum as I'm snacking on Greek Yogurt. I buy the huge containers of plain yogurt, or the ones with only fruit/honey.

For my snack:

1/2 container of greek yogurt
1 really large dollop of natural peanut butter
tablespoon of cocoa powder
tablespoon of honey.


Mix together and dip with apples!! It looks like frosting and it knocks off that bitter taste.

I've also made it without the chocolate…yogurt, peanut butter, honey, cinnamon, dash of vanilla. Then I'll plop a few mini chocolate chips or pecans on top and dip away! YUM. Kids love!!

I also eat the Fage with fruit most mornings for breakfast…I add additional fresh fruit and maybe a tablespoon of homemade granola (made with coconut oil, oats, cinnamon and honey…).

Mix into chicken or tuna salads, use it as a basis for salad dressings, use it on baked potatoes, use it in pancake mixes! In the summer I make smoothies with it.

I have a dd with an egg allergy, so I'm always substituting out eggs or mayonnaise with something, and greek yogurt is darn close.

I was just having the yogurt converation with some one yesterday - I dislike yogurt, Greek or otherwise.

I can eat it (I am not repulsed by it and it doesn't make me gag like cottage cheese does), but I would just never eat it because I want to.

I have tried many different types to try to force myself to like it but I just don't. Time to accept it.

The type I find most tolerable is the Chobani Flip. There is a Pineapple/Coconut one that comes with granola, coconut and hazelnut bits to mix in. That one was edible.

Plain yogurt? Forget it. I have to dump in lots of granola or crushed nuts or something...

I sometimes make my own!

I usually do plain yogurt, then add my own fruit and honey. Less sugar that way.
I agree with the previous posters.
Peanut butter has a good strong flavor and might help. So does pineapple, but given your AR, the acidity in the pineapple might be a bad idea.

Definitely try using it as a base for smoothies, add a bit of green tea (to thin it out a bit), and your choice of fruit and greens.

I'm not a fan of yogurt in general as it tends to have a texture I'm not crazy about and some of it makes me feel like my tongue is suddenly fuzzy.

However, I have found places to use it where I don't notice those things.

First: Smoothies. So great, only I have to use vanilla yogurt (greek or regular) or it is too sour.

Yogurt curry: 1 cup of greek yogurt (plain) with some grated ginger, couple of grated cloves of garlic, some turmeric, coriander, cumin, and a dash of cayenne, and the juice of one lemon. Fabulous on chicken or pork, marinate and then bake. I usually finish it under the broiler to get a nice browning on top.

I use plain yogurt in place of sour cream in some things, like dips.

Personally I use Greek Yogurt as the basis for a smoothie, and add in banana and berries. If I don't have those available I will add in some of my honey. I infuse it with coffee beans and it is rocking awesome. I also get what you mean about the film it leaves, I find brushing my teeth most helpful when I am done, if that's not an option then a swig of Diet Coke and a stick of gum.
I also recommend that if you need to up the fiber content that you look for some of the finer soluble fiber products, they are a lot less like eating sticks, more like sawdust. LOL. No really they make some fibers that when mixed in with stuff like that it isn't even noticeable.
