So, I have a cat. Furby, who is Satan with a fur coat. He has one eye, half an ear, due to neurosurgery, and his head is crooked due to same neurosurgery. He hates everyone, he will let u pet him for three seconds, then bites you. My beloved yorkie, Buddy, sits on my lap at night while I read here, and gives me kisses and loves. Tonight, Furby ran Buddy off and curled up on my lap like he only did for three weeks after DDay. He growled everytime Buddy got near me. He is now on my lap again giving me kisses. What the heck is this new behavior? he is curled up in my arms n biting my arm. Anyone experience this with a cat?

(((welcome, Furby, and Buddy)))

It sounds like he's been through a lot. Maybe try taking him to the vet to see if anything is wrong? I ordered (and just started using) this holistic peacemaker stuff from Jackson Galaxy. It's supposed to help ease tension. Sending you calm furry mojo.

He is an oldeer cat, 8 years old, so he shouldn't be having any changes due to maturing or anything, he is acting perfectly healthy, and we haven't had any changes in the household that would upset him. It's just weird. I was afraid to move last night in case he decided to quit biting me and disembowel me instead. And no, my name isn't Rosemary...

I wonder if he has pain? I watched the cat show on cable and a guy had a similar story - petting cat and for "no apparent reason" the cat would bite after just a short time. They found the cat had a hip problem that was causing pain - so petting was hurting, thus the bite.

I would have him checked out. Poor kitty has been through a lot.

Assuming you have had Furby checked by a vet and there are no medical reasons for his behavior, sometimes cats are just weird! I have one male cat, Scooter, who loves to lie on the bed by me and flop on his back for tummy rubs. He really enjoys them and will always present his belly for them. Unfortunately, without any warning, he will at some point invariably strike like an asp and bite me (and he has some wicked sharp fangs too!) I could understand if I was petting an area he doesn't like; but there's no particular area or time limit - it strictly depends on his mood.

Be careful what you wish for the most - you may get it.

((Buddy)) Poor puppy.

Furby sounds like every cat I've ever known.

Hence my love of dogs.

Cats that are more of a feral nature tend be more of the type that go for the love nibbles, unfortunately if they haven't been around other cats to beat the piss out of when they bite, they don't know how hard they are biting.

I have a female right now that is about 2, and she was feral, and tamed, and she is 110% cat, she loves to hunt, and if very aloof. She loves my H, she is his cat. She too does the love you bite you thing. She also has just recently taken to laying on my lap when I am in a particular chair with a particular blanket on my lap. Without this perfect combo she won't but if I do, she will quietly get on my lap, curl up and go to sleep.

Cats are very different, and tend to do things we don't get. My guess is he is just feeling the need for attention or jealous of the dog. Enjoy it while it lasts.

thnks, guys, it helps to know he isn't the only bipolar cat out there, and I heard the 911 call from the people who's cat attacked them- did u know the dog was hiding in the bedroom with them? too funny. Tonight Furby is back to acting like he never met me before in his life- after he ate his dinner, of course. Weird. And FYI, the surgeries were 7 years ago, so no recent trauma. There must've been some strange ripple in the force, or the time/space continuum.. and I am happy to report that my bowels remain intact.

I know the reason he curled up with you!!! Because cats are weird.

I have two cats...one in a snuggle-bug. The other wants to be but doesn't know how to. If there is such a thing as autism in cats, well that's what he's got. He desperately wants to snuggle, but he just can't figure it out. He stands on my chest, walking in circles, headbutts me in the face, but just doesn't have the social skills to lay the f down and get love.

So yeah....cats are weird.

Dameia - You made me lol at my office this morning. Thank you.

I'm sorry you have a "touched" cat. That's what we used to call it with one we had right after college. His name was Clovis, and he was quite touched. Ever see a cat run sideways on a wall? yup he could do it. He also was fond of falling from the open balcony to the first floor in our house, it happened regularly. Poor little guy.
