I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness for it shows me the stars.
It sounds like he's been through a lot. Maybe try taking him to the vet to see if anything is wrong? I ordered (and just started using) this holistic peacemaker stuff from Jackson Galaxy. It's supposed to help ease tension. Sending you calm furry mojo.

I would have him checked out. Poor kitty has been through a lot.
Furby sounds like every cat I've ever known.
Hence my love of dogs.
I have a female right now that is about 2, and she was feral, and tamed, and she is 110% cat, she loves to hunt, and if very aloof. She loves my H, she is his cat. She too does the love you bite you thing. She also has just recently taken to laying on my lap when I am in a particular chair with a particular blanket on my lap. Without this perfect combo she won't but if I do, she will quietly get on my lap, curl up and go to sleep.
Cats are very different, and tend to do things we don't get. My guess is he is just feeling the need for attention or jealous of the dog. Enjoy it while it lasts.
I have two cats...one in a snuggle-bug. The other wants to be but doesn't know how to. If there is such a thing as autism in cats, well that's what he's got. He desperately wants to snuggle, but he just can't figure it out. He stands on my chest, walking in circles, headbutts me in the face, but just doesn't have the social skills to lay the f down and get love.
So yeah....cats are weird.
One should rather die than be betrayed. There is no deceit in death. It delivers precisely what it has promised. Betrayal, though ... betrayal is the willful slaughter of hope. ~Steven Deitz
I'm sorry you have a "touched" cat. That's what we used to call it with one we had right after college. His name was Clovis, and he was quite touched. Ever see a cat run sideways on a wall? yup he could do it. He also was fond of falling from the open balcony to the first floor in our house, it happened regularly. Poor little guy.
