I kind of regret not changing my last name at the time of divorce. How hard is it to go back and do after the fact? Anyone know?

I did mine 2 years after the D was final. In my state (Pa), it just is filing 1 form. The real pain is all of the credit cards, etc.

I changed my name 4 years ago, and just got my notary commission in my new name. My passport is still in y married name. Yikes.

I changed my name during the divorce, but it's not a big deal to do it afterwards. Just a filing fee and some paperwork around here.

The REAL pain is changing the bazillion things you have your married name on!

I feel like 2 people. So much stuff still comes in my married name, one year later. Some of those things I realize I didn't think to change.

Eh, whatever. My important stuff has the right name on it and I feel like I have the right name.

Good luck!!

It's a pain to be in the middle with your name different all over the place, once it's all done though it is much easier. I have never regretted changing my name back, it was like releasing myself from that marriage hell.

I always thought I would never bother going back to my maiden name if anything ever happened between Sir Shagalot and I because I knew it would be a pain in the neck to change it. However, after the total disrespect he showed to me coupled with the sleaziness of his behaviour, there was no way that I wanted to live out the rest of my days with his family name attached to mine.

It has been time consuming and annoying but worth every minute of inconvenience to finally get something of myself back.

THIS. I personally would not have felt free until I had my own name back. All is right with the universe.

I totally agree! The feeling when I had my own name back was AMAZING! I felt like myself again. I HATED it during the divorce before it was final when I still had to be referred to as XWH's last name.

I thought it was easy. Final decree in hand, a trip to the social security office, a trip to the dmv, and then after that just changing utilities, credit card & bank accounts, shoppers club accounts, and other little stuff. The only thing that cost me was my passport, I believe it was over $100 to change it.

Marriages that start this way, stepping over the bodies of loved ones as the giddy couple walks down the aisle, are not likely to last.
