Bear in mind that my grandson is 4 years old.

GS is participating in a trike-a-thon at his preschool for St. Jude. A page has been set up in his name for people to make donations. (He is the top donation earner, BTW!).

I noticed that his name was on the donation board – for $20. I figured my DD had donated and just put his name down. No. After my DD explained why he was participating in the trike-a-thon, soliciting contributions, and what St. Jude does and what cancer is, my grandson grabs his piggy bank from his room. He had $20 and some change. He has been saving this money since he was three. He was saving it for a special toy for himself. He gave the money to my DD and asked her to give it to St. Jude. She asked him if he was absolutely sure that he wanted to part with the money he had been saving for almost two years. He said, “I don’t need it, Mommy. The kids with cancer need it so they can get better. They HAVE to get better, Mommy! They’re just little kids like me and my cousin and my baby sister!”

Yeah, he’s FOUR. Already thinking of others before himself. Our angel on earth. So proud of our little man.

My infant cousin died from hepatoblastoma 3 weeks after her first birthday. Please tell your grandson that my family and I thank him for caring about the little ones.

I originally joined SI as a way to help my best friends find ways of coping with infidelity, but now infidelity has touched my family much closer to home.

Your GS sounds awesome.

I have always been a fan of the St. Jude organization. In elementary school the had I read-a-thon that I joined. I spent my summer with my nose in books. I earn a lot of money through donations. I was the top earner in the school. My prize was tickets to the college football hall of fame. My father actually took off work to take me. To this day it was the only time my father has ever went out of his way to spend time with me alone. In all the years I played sports, probably 20 or so different years/teams my father only came to 1 game to watch me play. So I hold that day very close to my heart. It was worth the effort I put into helping others. I certainly got way more than expected in return.

If you wouldn't mind PM me the donation page and I will give a little to help him stay top earner.

Awww..thank you, Lynn! Yes, his parents are very kind, hard-working, generous people and are passing that onto the kids (BTW, please see my post in Off Topic about my DD and the baby...need all the prayers we can get!) -

GS is always telling his mommy, "you're beautiful" (and me too.. )- he helps SO much with his baby sister, who is a scrappy, willful little toddler - he keeps his room clean, puts his clothes in the hamper and..get this...95% of the time he doesn't pee all over the toilet seat!
