Bad news - It was on my daughter and I am a little traumatized right now.

Parenthood - NOT for the faint of heart.

ETA - I should clarify that this was my first HM ever, and it was thankfully a success.

Glad you put that in there. I saw the title and thought "How many unsuccessful ones did she have before she got to this one?"

I should have put it in parentheses. Won't bother the mods with that one, though.

We were having breakfast for dinner, and the bacon was a little too soft. I personally like mine crumbly bordering on burnt, but everyone else here likes it chewy so I catered to that tonight.

She crammed a whole piece in her mouth. We had our neighbor over for dinner, and DD was goofing off and inhaled it. Then started to panic and try to breathe and it blocked her airway. I don't remember leaping from my side of the table to hers and yanking her out of her seat.. but I do remember wondering whether I should be giving her adult Heimlich or flipping her over on my arm for one millisecond. Common sense yelled "She's fucking FOUR!! Get under her ribcage NOW!!"

And the rest is history. I'm so grateful for First Aid/CPR training, and the movie Groundhog Day.

That happened with my dad and a steak a few years back when I was visiting him down in the Keys. We were at a really quaint little island bar and restaurant. We'd had a few drinks and we're laughing, then all of a sudden, he wasn't. He turned blue! Scariest figgin' moment of my life! Luckily his friend, who was sitting next to him, noticed and jumped up and gave him the HM. So glad your little girl is ok! How scary for you!

When DS22 was about a year old, he choked on a leaf. (Dont ask) I did back blows on him and got the leaf out.

The next time I had to do CPR class at work, everyone else would grab the little baby dummy and very gently pat it's back. I grabbed that sucker and beat the hell out of it.

This instructor looked at me and said, "Youve done this in real life, haven't you?"

I'm literally pacing around the house trying to release the stress.

In the moment, I was almost out of body like "This isn't happening. This isn't really happening."

When her face started to go from red to purple and I could actually hear her gasping the bacon in, I'm so fricken happy that my impulse to remain calm and do what I needed to do overrode everything else.

I am super high anxiety, but if there's a fire or someone's in danger or hurt my body goes into action mode. So grateful.

I'm glad she's ok. I hope you were able to calm down enough to get some rest last night. Good thing you were able to keep your cool in the heat of the moment.

Oh my god!! Jrazz.. I read your first post and thought.."Oh I had to do that once! When dd got a piece of soft bacon stuck in her throat."

She was about 4.

I'm glad Vrazz is ok! Also you should know, you will not be thanked for your heroics. However, you will hear several times years from now "Remember that time you didn't cook the bacon well enough and I almost died?"

Why don't 4 year olds chew bacon!!!???

ETA) I didn't do the heimlich though.. I reached in her throat and grabbed it. Good job remembering your training!!

I'm glad she's ok. I'm REALLY GLAD you had the training AND remembered it when you needed it!

I hope you were able to calm down and sleep.

OMG. So glad to hear you are both OK.

I hate having to come down off of that adrenalin rush, so shaky and jittery…but it sounds like you handled it perfectly.

Poor baby…was she OK afterwards?
