I don't have a pic of myself to post, but I have dark circles under my eyes, sometimes they're puffy.

I have an under eye corrector from Benefit---

However, I have no idea how I'm supposed to apply it. I grew up with a mom who never wore make up, so anything I do with make up is my own trial and error, or things I've seen friends do.

Anyone know how to reduce dark circles/puffy eyes with makeup?

I'd take some tips on how to correctly apply the smokey eye, as well. Every time I try, I end up looking like a frightened raccoon.

I use a powder called "well-rested" with bare escentuals powder makeup for areas like that around my eyes....there might be some creams that might help with it that are not makeup related but I'm not sure what is best!

Get rid of the puffiness by putting a wet tea bag on them for a short while BEFORE adding a concealer, maybe? The tannin in the tea decreases puffiness.

I'm a huge fan of Jaclyn Hill and Makeup Geek on Youtube! I live by their advice! I grew up with a naturally beautiful mother with gorgeous dark Native American skin. She never needed makeup and I didn't get to learn to apply it. Even when I do, you can't tell I'm wearing anything

Makeup Geek (her name is Marlene I think) has crazy dark circles and uses a shade 2 times darker than her skin. She said that you have to cover the circle and using light will make them a grayish tone. Never use cream concealer and only use liquid.

I recommend Youtube and the 2 mentioned above. These girls KNOW their stuff!

Did someone say makeup???

Second the tea bags. Also, be sure to splash your face with cold water in the AM - it will help reduce any redness and/or inflammation.

As for the dark circles, try a concealer with a yellow base in it - that counteracts the dark circles. My fav is NYX HD Concealer - it's super affordable and is pretty amazing stuff. I dot it on and blend it on with a small eye kabuki brush. I'm big on brushes for concealer and foundation application - makes a huge difference.

I also second MakeUpGeek on YouTube. She also has a site: www.makeupgeek.com - all her tutorials, product recommendations and reviews, etc., are on that site. She also has her own makeup line.

As for the smokey eye - watch Marlena's tutorial on MUG. I will suggest that you do any dramatic eye looks BEFORE you apply your foundation - that way you can clean up any eyeshadow fallout.

You ladies are the best!! I will be checking out those youtube channels and will likely be subscribing.

When you do an under eye concealer, do you put that on, BEFORE your foundation or apply it after?

Makeup artist here...

The cool water shot in the morning and tea bag/cucumber thing is alright, but there are also some products out there (with caffeine in them) that have a little rollerball on the end to shrink those puffs. I believe there's a garnier one at the drugstore that is affordable.

Makeup tip: using corrective concealer is great, but its essential to find the right shade to counteract the discoloration. Yellow based may make your eyes look grey underneath if that's not the correct neutralizing shade for your specific dark circles. The Benefits one you refer to (erase paste probably) is one of my favorites and you apply that prior to your foundation. Its more a salmon shade which is great for more bluish undertones. You simply press/tap it gently where you need it and then when you do foundation, if its liquid, you would VERY gently pat that over top. You definitely need to gently powder to set that though. If you use a powder foundation like bare minerals you do not buff there or it will just wipe off the concealer

Hope that helps!

Yes!!! Thank you so much! It is Erase Paste, and I couldn't remember that, LOL.

I will definately try applying it later.
