Texas State Fair G2G - 10/17-10/19!! (Pics starting Page 14)
Add taxes & fees to that $180/night and you are at $200+ x 2 or 3 nights for us and that's a lotta mooooo-la for a weekend. But we would be traveling from NY - thus the extended stay. And we are not definites soooo....
I am absolutely hearing and share the concerns about the price on the Hilton. Keep in mind that the estimate I gave earlier is just me going on line and trying to book a single room. Give me a day or two to find out just how good a rate we can get as a group. If it still seems out of reach I can look around some more. Check back on Tuesday and I should have some more info then.
Following this thread.
Hilton Garden Inn in Grapevine is just down the Hwy and is about $25-30 per night cheaper on the base room rate, though if you can negotiate a similar rate at the Hilton Southlake, which does seem to be perfect location and is a nice place, that could definitely make all the difference.
Are newbies welcome?
The general rule for G2G's is that all are welcome. Vets, Moderators, Guides, newbies, BS, WS, and Madhatters. Couples in R, and couples in limbo.
WS's are often fearful they'll be picked on. That doesn't happen.
I can't take it anymore. Please put me on the maybe list for this g2g. The thought of not being there is killing me! I'll have to assess my finances in a couple weeks when I get back from my vacation.
2 added to the maybe,

MrsRussia, it'll be a pleasure to meet you!
I'm a little intimidated, though...
Should I bring my nuclear weapons, or just a dash-cam?
Wait. I know!
I'll bring my chess set!
LOL. I'm the one who is intimidated. So if you would, bring some vodka please
Put me down as a maybe.
I have no idea what hotels near the airport would cost, but there's plenty of them around there. I'd suggest hotels in the Hurst, Euless, Bedford area except that 183 is such a fuster cluck due to construction.
I know I said "maybe" before, but make me for sure. Come hell or high water (or an insane work schedule from now until, say, 2018) I will find a way.
@MrsRussia - I will bring vodka - mark it down
I went to my first (and to date, only) G2G in Houston back in March. I was less than 2 months from my d-day, had recently filed for divorce, and it just so happened that while I was hanging out with the fine folks of SI, my ex was moving the rest of her stuff out of my house, the house we shared for 7 of our 12 years together. I was awestruck by how these people who I'd never met in person felt like instant friends for life. For real. The way they treated me, spent time with me, I will never, ever forget such kindness, and I look forward to paying it forward in October.
Newbies are very much welcome.

NY has a new lottery - $1000/day for life! I need to WIN that so I can just go from G2G to G2G without a care in the world
To dream, the impossible dream...
I missed Houston this year, so I think Dallas is a must... but then I probably won't be able to justify Houston in March...
That settles it. Off to buy a ticket!
Put me down as a maybe, leaning heavily towards the definite side. I need to work out some financials first but I am going to try to make this happen.
Quick update. Got a proposal today from the event coordinator at the Hilton. Not what I had hoped for... The best we will be able to get from them is $170 a night, only slightly better than the usual rate. So still pretty spendy.
Regardless it is still my recommendation for location, amenities etc. but I certainly understand that $170 may be a little steep for most people, it'd be steep for me as well.
So that being said, I have also got a call out to the other Hilton north of the airport. It is actually just a few miles down the road. Not much to do immediately around it but there is plenty within just a few minutes drive (although in all honesty with all of the construction they've been doing around there driving anywhere is like navigating a friggen corn maze while drunk and blindfolded). I haven't actually checked it out personally yet but plan to stop by tomorow on my lunch break, I'll let y'all know what I think then. I am expecting an email from them with pricing but I am expecting it's more in the neighborhood of $120 a night.
Also still waiting for info from the Marriott , and I already expounded on my initial perception of that hotel in my last post.
I think that the most important thing is that we try to get everyone in the same place if at all possible. Just makes things much easier logistically don't ya think? But I'm certainly not comfortable making the decision for you all so I need to hear back with feedback from everyone that's going to want a room.

Put me as for sure. I won't need a room I will be staying with my friend in flower mound.
Updated pg 1.
I tell you HT, THANK YOU FOR WORKING ON THIS!
(& navigating a friggen corn maze while drunk and blindfolded)
You got that right!
There's one answer to expensive - we know it peeps.
I certainly don't want to provide false hope, but I might, and I stress might be able to use a company contact to knock some rates down. Again, don't bank on it, but I'll see what I can do if anything. Someone PM/call/throw things at me if I don't report back in the next few days. Just trying to help.
The roomies idea may not be bad either way. After all, as I was told in Houston, it's newbie responsibility to take care of jjct Nah, just kidding...maybe...don't really remember since I bravely volunteered to take his Patron shots for him. Just being a team player
That's a rule I can support!
it was brought to my attention that perhaps I am sharing WAY to many specific details on a public forum so I am editing this post and will PM the details to everybody individually.
That shouldn't take too much time...(sigh)
