I’ve been sitting on a Groupon gift card for 5 months. Not sure where it would be best spent. I gravitate towards a lot of the cosmetic procedure stuff because without Groupon I wouldn’t know where to go, how much to spend, etc...

I’ve done some laser hair removal on a few small areas and am generally pleased with the results. I could use some touch-ups but would love to get my legs done eventually. I have crazy dark hair and it shows under the skin, and I just hate keeping up with it. This is the most expensive thing I’m considering and I would have to pay well over the gift card amount.

Then I have a skin tag I’d like removed near my underarm. I’m not embarrassed by it, but it is in an inconvenient area and has been nicked and pulled and it just aggravates me. This is pretty cheap to get removed and would only be half the gift card.

I’d also really love to try microdermabrasion or a peel. Dilemma here is that I want results and scheduling always seems to be an issue. Places fill up months out for convenient hours, and a lot of them offer only really mild treatments that need multiple sessions, so there is potential for more out of pocket beyond the initial investment.

Then I’ve been considering tattoo makeup. Nothing crazy, just subtle eyebrow fill in and shape for now. Black brows on pale skin look super sparse and I’m really lazy about make-up. I had a teacher who did this with all her make-up years before I had her. She was in her 50s or 60s and still loved it, but that was many years ago and I’ve never met anyone else who has had this done. Are there huge cons?

Anyway, those are the main ones I’m considering. Any suggestions? Maybe I should quit being so shallow and just spend it on an activity instead, but those are always so hit and miss.

Personally at 43, with some sun damage I would jump at the dermabrasion. I know a few people that have done it, with fabulous results.

Skin tags, are a do it yourself home project. A new pair of nail clippers, and some alcohol, and styptic powder. So I wouldn't spend it on that.

Also with the laser hair removal you have to back, and go back, and go back, and go back, and it's expensive, so I don't know. I had my lip done (French bloodline) and it lasted about 12 years, but the last year or so it's coming back with a vengeance. I would be pissed if I spent that kind of fundage on my legs and have it come back.

What about an all out full on spa day, massage, hair, facial, pedi, etc. I might go for something like that as well.

OMG. This is why I'm not a nurse!

Nora I had the same thoughts

You did inspire me to look up DIY methods tushnurse. I just so happen to have Vitamin E oil and band-aides in my purse so I'm going to try starving it that way. I also have tea tree oil, duct tape, nail polish, castor oil, and baking soda at home so lots of DIY options. Hopefully one of those will work, cause, umm, the angle is all wrong for clippers or something

I have my lips tattooed. It doesn't actually replace lipstick per se, but it's definitely "color". I did it to cover a scar but have been really happy with it. I'll occasionally wear a shiny gloss but I haven't purchased lipstick or colored lip gloss in years.

The thing about tattoo makeup is that the color they put on is not the color it turns, so you really need to go to someone who knows their stuff. The woman who did my lips actually does medical reconstruction (think tattooing an areola). So when she did it, it was BRIGHT RED, omg, I looked like I was wearing those wax lips lol. But when it healed, it's a nice soft deep pink.

You know when you see it go wrong. Have you ever seen women whose brows are sort of a dark dark purple, not quite black? That's what happens. It probably looked awesome when it was first applied, but that's not the color you wind up with.

Thanks cayc! Glad to hear you are happy with your results. I will definitely check reviews. I also prefer to go to someone where it is there specialty. It seems a lot of the places that are offering it are just adding new services to drum up business. Which is kind of frightening for something so permanent. I’d rather go to a regular tattoo parlor than the nail tech who just got certified.

I have had IPL done to correct redness from rosacea and melasma. I also had a very intense chemical peel done which hurt like a mother and took about 5 days to heal. Whatever you choose to do make sure you know what the down time is going to be. A mild laser treatment like the IPL has no down time and my skin always seems healthier for months after.

I think you should splurge and get your legs lasered.

But I don't think you will, because you're like me, and the financial side outweighs the benefits, as much as it's evident you want it done.

But from your post, it sounds like you really do want to do it, and wish you could justify it.

Hahahaha, I've totally done this, and would never have admitted it if a nurse hadn't said so first.

Well skin tag is off the agenda for now. I'm covering it in liquid band-aid twice a day and it already seems smaller.

Ama, you might be right that laser is my true preference, but I'm spending a boat load on dental work this year so maybe not the time for splurging Thinking it might be better to wait until winter anyway because it doesn't mix well with sun exposure.

Gardenparty, I hadn't even heard of IPL. I look into that, thanks!

Which things on this list would you be considering even if you didn't have the gift card?

All of them have been on the curiosity list prior to the gift card. Permanent make-up is newer to the list, and probably scares me more than clippers to the skin tag.

Maybe skin treatment is the way to go.
