I found out that I'll be finding out today whether I passed an interview. It's important to me symbolically because if it's yes that means I passed a fairly hard interview. I don't really care if it's no because I've since found that the benefits they're offering are mediocre (given the probable salary), and that I need more time to decide on whether I'm willing to move. But yeah, that kind of opened up a can of worms in my head.

I'm also going to take my daughter for a visit to the place this company's in, in the near future, just to get more of a feel for it. I won't move voluntarily without her buy-in and without having at least visited the new place.

Good Luck PIC. I hope the interview went well. The best situation is for the interview to go well and for you to get the offer, then you can decide if you want to take it or not. Nothing wrong with declining the offer if it really doesn't meet what you are looking for. And of course you could try to negotiate for more if they are really interested in you. Let them know that you like the position and the opportunity but that you are uncomfortable about the salary or some of the benefits and see if they come back with something that is more palatable.

Well, I didn't find out anything yet, but being in this situation is sure helpful for stimulating me to think about what I want out of a job. :)

Recruiter said they'll be passing on me; they liked me and my skills were fine, but they have someone local who's a better fit. They mentioned that if they had more openings they'd consider me, and if they have a role free soon they'd like to talk to me again. Recruiter mentioned he'd keep his eyes/ears open in the market.

This is a good outcome--I did about as well on the interview as I thought (it was a tough interview, and I've learned a lot since then based on things I had trouble with), and no pressure to move to the other location before I've checked it out. I'm going over there with my daughter for a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in the near future to visit.

Sounds like all went well, with the exception of not getting the job. Hopefully you can find something that is better suited for your needs. Who knows, maybe the recruiter will hear about something and let you know!!
