I think it depends on your lifestyle. I was already eating pretty well when I did it, it was on a primal diet (similar to paleo but with allowances for dairy and some carbs such as rice when needed for fuel) for quite awhile but wanted to take my diet to the next level.
I'm a very active person, I exercise allot, probably about 1.5- 2 hours of high intensity cardio and heavy free weights, I really lost my energy for these activities. I remember running with a group and not being able to make it even halfway up a hill, I thought it was the initial energy slump but it didn't get better. Interestingly I felt good after week two, and HIIT (shorter, higher intensity cardio) sessions were fine but it I needed to sustain my activity levels over say, a 6-10 km run I couldn't do it. I ended up adding some carbs back in (rice, sweet potatoes, some fruit) and was ok.
As my diet was already clean I didn't feel the amazing benefits that those who eat a typical western diet of bread, sugar, wheat, sweeteners and processed foods feel. I think those are the people it really benefits.
I went off my clean eating when I first arrived in the states, in two and a half months I gained about 5 kg. I am now working like crazy to lose it, right now I'm on a "quick fix" of meal replacement shakes twice a day with a paleo style low cal meal for dinner which I know is not great as those shakes are filled with chemicals. Once I've dropped the weight I will go back onto clean eating for maintenance.
The six pounds you have lost is probably due to fluid loss. Carbs cause you to retain fluid and although you will lose fat with this diet as it will probably put you into a ketogenic state which makes you burn fat for fuel. This can be dangerous if you have conditions such as diabetes.
So to summarise my rambling, the whole 30 is great if your diet is poor, if it isn't and you are very active you may need to tweak it slightly. Listen to your body, if you experience consistent fatigue that goes longer then a couple of weeks you may need to re adjust.

Because we're programmed for "feast or famine" mode, the first place you will lose fat is your abdomen, in the form of abdominal fat, which is the least healthy fat anyway. At the end of my Whole30, I had lost considerable abdominal fat and bloating, so my stomach was MUCH flatter.
When I was done with my Whole30, I added almond milk back in and found it really upset my stomach (I had given it up for the Whole30 because it contains carrageenan) and gave me gastrointestinal problems. Same with cheese, and most grains.
So, I'm pretty much sticking to the Whole30 for life now. I feel great, no loss of energy (but I'm not a runner, nor will I ever be, because I hate it ), nothing negative to report except the few times I decide a piece of pizza is "worth it", then I am paying for that decision for days.
Anyway, if you need condiments to spice up your food, there is a brand called Tessemae's that has many sauces that are Whole30/paleo compliant (even a great BBQ sauce sweetened with prunes instead of HFC, which is considered a grain derivative).

I ended up starting a group at work and we will do Whole30 for the month of June. This is probably the "easiest" "diet" I've ever tried. I can see this becoming a way of life - with the occasional splurge. That said, I'm afraid of the splurge, because I know I will pay for it for a few days after. I guess I'll just have to decide if that splurge is truly worth it.

rachelc, I felt the same way! BUT, it does get easier, and by the time you get that glass of wine, after 30 days, it's like a glass of ice water after crossing the Sahara.
