You'll wind up paying a little more
This is the problem. We cannot pay anymore. We're college students. Paying this attorney meant figuring out our bills for the whole year, giving ourselves a small allowance for unexpected expenses (like, a couple hundred dollars a term), and writing checks to the attorney for the rest. We simply do not have another $1,000 to give. We do not have a way to borrow it (personal or private loans). For now, it is out of the question.
I'd check to see if there are any other bar complaints already filed against her for similar complaints. If there is already a precedent for refunding money and finding a new lawyer, it may be easier to switch.
I'll be calling to find out on Monday.
Update: I just found out that my university provides free legal services for students. Now, my H is not a student there, so they likely will be unable to finish the adoption, but they should at least be able to advise us on our problems with the attorney.
Man, the more I deal with this the more upset I am getting, and to think she is taking on MORE clients when the other attorney told me he has been finishing NUMEROUS cases for our current attorney!
