I'm single this summer so I won't have this problem but OMG -- I LOL'd at the title of your thread.

Here's my argument, and one I have used while I was sweating profusely in the mid-summer heat in my exBF's top floor, unventilated apartment.

It is much easier to get warm than it is to get cool. So my vote is to always keep the temperature in the house cool. For those who think it is too cool, put on some socks and get a blanket.

Ha! Even when you live alone...

At work, my staff wear lab coats; they can get pretty toasty, so we keep the temperature as low as possible. We only overlap with the rest of the company by about an hour, but they complain bitterly about the low temps. I have to run interference between the two groups.

I got up the other night and turned down the air conditioning. I cannot sleep when I'm hot! And since SO is retired, he is not consulted on this issue!

I am a furnace when I sleep so I usually make it fridgid. Then my W is forced to snuggle up for heat.

I have no "war" because I basically win. My H would like it far cooler than I like it but he lets me have my way about it whenever we are together.

For those who think it is too cool, put on some socks and get a blanket.
I do this all winter long and my H still says I am like an ice cube in the winter. He warms me up at night but it is dreadful and painful for him at first! It is almost funny how awful it is for him (not the room temps but my body temps when I'm snuggled against him). Funny because his warmth feels so good to me, but my coldness is not at all pleasant to him. But he happily endures this (because I'm worth it...LOL) and after snuggling for awhile I do warm up, far more than blankets and socks can do. I keep my house around 70 to 72 in the winter. I'd like it higher but I'm also cheap so I opt for blankies, sweaters and warm socks. I'm actually so used to being cold that most of the time I don't notice it until I get into bed at night.

When riding in the car, my H will put his window down sometimes, and I will say "you could probably roll that window up if you'd like." He knows exactly what I mean and up goes the window. My H loves me and proves it every day.

Your desired day/night setting (A/C): 80
Your spouses day/night setting (A/C): 80

Lets face it... it's a hell of a lot cheaper than running it at 72 or some other ridiculously low number.

Even in July/August in Central Florida I don't have to pay more than $150 for electric... Usually it's just over $100.

I don't mind being warm for extra $$$ in my pocket.

Picture the following -

1) W feels cold below 80 F
2) H feels hot above 65 F
3) electric blanket
4) servant (we were overseas and expats had servants) who had never seen an electric blanket before....

Ah, yes. A laugh a minute, especially after W got pregnant....

I survived an entire summer in Tucson with no air conditioning. There's no high temp I can't withstand

Not at home, but at work.

My office is one of three side by side, adjacent to a classroom/conference room. The thermostat for all of the rooms is in the classroom. I share an office with another post menopausal woman, and we alternate hot flashes. Next door is a fairly normal woman and on the other side is an apparently severely anemic woman who keeps a heater going year round. IN FREAKING SOUTH CAROLINA!!!!

So you'd think we could find see medium but noooo. Anemic girl cranks it up to 80. I go in and put it on 72. Then we have a meeting and someone decides it'll cool down faster if they put it on 60. Cue anemic girl. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I've asked the boss if there isn't some way to lock it on some reasonable temp but no one can agree on what that would be. When I show up for work in a tube top and sarong, maybe they'll take me seriously.

I pay the electricity bill in my house. I win.

But, SO is moving in this weekend, and he's not used to Houston summers, and I'm willing to compromise. The house will be cooler than usual, and he can keep me warm if I get chilly.

I am always a good 10 degrees warmer than fwh and 5 warmer than DS. You know what? I don't care! They can put on a damn sweatshirt and extra socks! I can't walk around the house nekkid! For real, there are times when fwh is sitting right next to me cuddled up in a big thick blanket and I'm sitting here with the fan directly pointed at me. Anything over 75 and the windows are closed and the AC on!

I pay the bills AND have terrible allergies, so the windows have to stay closed or the crops all around the house will kill me dead.

The thermostat gets set at 75 in the summer (70 at night) and 65 in the winter (60 at night). No one else gets a vote.

When I was married, we got a programmable thermostat. We sat down and negotiated a schedule of what time we wanted the temperature to change, and what that temp should be.

I was continuously coming home to the switch flipped to "manual" and some extreme temperature. When I would ask him why he did this, he would just scream "fuck you" at me.

I'm cheap, so my house is always a little chilly. At night, there's always a dog that's willing to snuggle me.
