My DS is hiking the trail. I have posted about it in OT, but with pics I know the mods like to keep pics in F&G. So for your virtual enjoyment.

WOW! Great pictures. We were just at Amacalola Falls last week. I wish him safe travels and good weather.

Thanks GH! They have run into some rough weather, but have survived. I was a bit worried with the storms that went through recently, but they are inland enough that it didn't impact them too badly.

This weekend they are at Trail Days in Damascus, VA. They were excited that they hit Damascus with perfect timing.

You're handling it well mom

I'm so envious! Sending him mojo for good weather from now on and safe travels.

Ah thanks

He is so well prepared, I have no real worries. And he will be home in a few weeks for his sister's wedding so that helps

He will then turn right around and head back out.

This is soooo cool. I have wanted to do the Pacific Crest Trail for years now!

If anyone's interested in reading about these long, crazy treks in memoir form, a local author here wrote about it in her book "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail". I thought it was a great book.

Thanks for sharing your son's awesome photos!!

That reminds me - I wanted to read the App Trail book "A Walk in the Woods" while he is hiking... gotta get that! I'm about 300 miles behind!

I'll share more pics as his travels continue. I'm guess the one of him eating a sandwich next to the port-a-johns isn't of big interest!

He is on his way home for his sister's wedding

Since my last post, his phone died (won't charge) so no pics for the last month or so. A bear ate his food - even in a bear bag, hung in a tree twisted with a stick, etc etc. The bear left his salt & pepper packets, the seasoning packets from raemen noodles and his instant coffee.

They wanted to rent a car to drive home for the wedding, but without a major credit card, they were turned away. A couple in the rental car agency overheard their story and offered them a ride from Pearisburg VA to Philadelphia. They took them up on that offer and left this morning. They were hoping finding a bus/train from Philly home would be easier than from where they were.

10 hours on a bus/train @ $100-$200 ea was daunting. I checked out flights and was able to get them flights home with frequent flyer miles Had to pay $80/ea for the privilege of using the miles, but still cheaper and a whole lot quicker than the other options.

I will snap a pic of how they look upon arrival.

It will be a full weekend full of emotions here!

I bet it well. Mom to mom, I so relieved that the bear went for the food and left him alone!

Love the pictures. What an adventure!
