SM, I can't express how loud it really is either-I wasn't aware you could grind teeth and make that much noise! Like a bullfrog croaking! Only gritty! Ack!

Omg my mom chews ice, my sister gulps her drinks and my nephew smacks his food. It takes everything I have to eat a meal with them!

YES! My sister & I and my dd and niece all suffer from it. We say a 20/20 (?) show that showed it's a real thing and it was such a relief that I didn't make my dd this way!

Chewing - sometimes just the sight of a jaw going up and down is enough to drive me insane.

Crinkling of a chip bag

Crunching

Misophoni-ites unite!

Loud breathers

YES! And snoring!

UGH when H falls asleep in the chair and is breathing, I want to suffocate him!

I just always thought I had some very deep seated anger issues that gum snapping brought to the surface.

My mom used to slap us across the face if we made any noise with our food or gum. I always blamed her for my *fetish*. Guess that's one thing I can't blame on her!

We should start a "Surviving Misophonia" website! Though calling it SM.com might bring some with other *fetishes*

I can understand the desire to do it, but to give yourself permission to do that..... I am so sorry.

yewtree, that must be agony for you!

Is there any kind of therapy for this?
Want2help, I read there are online support groups. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Also, here is a link to an article about what a therapist was doing to help her client with misophonia.

I can't stand to hear someone chew, or drink. Ever since I was a kid. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. It makes my skin crawl. I do get irrational about it.

You know why they're online? So we don't kill each other over the noises one another makes!

My H snores, also. One night I got so fed up I recorded it on my phone, then cranked up the volume and played it directly into his ear.

When he jerked awake in a panic I asked sweetly "Oh, I'm sorry, did that wake you up?"

I cannot stand how fWS will be watching her iPad mini while listening to Sirius/xm radio on the TV and then play a music video on her iPad at the same time. So there are two songs playing in the room simultaneously: one on the TV with surround sound and one coming out of her device at top volume. Makes. Me. Homicidal. The "music" is so discordant I have to leave the room.

Yes. I've dealt with this most of my life. It's the main reason I started my own business - can't handle being in an office. At least if I want to be productive.

Sad that there's no cure. And that most professionals think we're making it up. And that others think desensitization works - when it actually makes things worse.

I use ear plugs in public - also I have a hearing aid that produces "pink" noise. These help, but there are a few noises that defeat that defense.

Did you know that Kelly Ripa is also a sufferer? She has spoken about problems in the home.

Someone I know actually traveled to London to take part in an MRI brain study of Misophonia. No results yet, but at least some professionals are starting to take notice, and understand this is a serious condition.

I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

So, let me get this straight. The fact that I want to kill someone when they scrap their teeth on their fork while eating is not just me being bitchy. And the sound of cutlery cleaning together drives me up the wall and I get goose bumps the size of tennis balls. This isn't me being me? Huh!

Yep, I have it.

Hearing people chewing and swallowing their food makes me want to punch them in the face.

I also can't stand people biting or picking their nails, that sound makes me want to scream.

Do you hear high-pitched electronic whining sounds that others don't????

No - not at all. Its a particular pitch that seems to occur in video games. Its not even that high of a pitch. Just a particular one. That said I hate video games because there is just too much noise going on at once. Just total overstimulation for me. When I do play them the sound must be OFF.

Or the clinking of a spoon when stirring coffee... or eating ice cream from a glass bowl...

My trick for movie theaters - I have to sit in the back row so no one is sitting behind me chomping and crinkling.

People don't understand our pain nor our rage!

I cannot STAND the sound of someone hawking up mucous.

Or SNUFFING it UP.

BLOW YOUR FUCKING NOSE.

I could never, EVER be a respiratory therapist.

Those sounds make me stabby, and seeing mucous makes me barfy.
