1. My school didn't have a track and field day. We just had Field Day. (It was founded by the military).

2. Tie between English, Graphic Arts and Civics. Our Civics classes had the tendency to go off on completely unrelated tangents, which was cool.

3. On my 16th birthday, the other kids shouted out birthday "salutations" while in the dining hall. They're the main reason I'm indifferent to it now.

4. I was basically a loner but I guess you could say I was one of the "brainiacs".

5. We didn't have a foreign language class.

I just have to comment on the foreign language thing. In the state I live in, which is different than the one where I grew up, you have to take 4 years of a FL to get into a state college.

Have those requirements changed elsewhere too?

1. If your school had a track and field day, what was your best event? If it didn't then which event do you think you would have been best in?

I ran cross-country for a few years in high school, so I'll go with any long-distance running event I suppose.

2. What was your favorite subject in school?

Creative Writing with World History a close second.

3. Tell something embarrassing that happened to you at school.

Got handcuffed and pulled out of class and by 2 armed Sheriffs. Turns out someone with my first name was discovered to have a large amount of weed in their locker and the school gave them my name instead of the actual offender. The "error" was fortunately discovered before I was taken off school grounds. My parents almost sued...

4. How would you classify your friend group in school? (Jocks, braniacs, band folks, Preppy, . . . .)

Mostly braniacs, some jocks. Well, by my senior year, I was hanging out more with "questionable" folks. I guess I never put myself in any group fully.

5. What foreign language(s) did you take?

Spanish

This week's theme is school (K-12)

1. If your school had a track and field day, what was your best event? If it didn't then which event do you think you would have been best in?
50 yard dash, set the school record in 5th grade. LOL. It was DESTROYED a year later by some 3rd grade girl who went on to be a Super Soccer Star (like think Olympic team).

2. What was your favorite subject in school?
Sciences of course.

3. Tell something embarrassing that happened to you at school.
I passed out in band, and dropped my horn. The band director thought I was duncing around and yelled at me.

4. How would you classify your friend group in school? (Jocks, braniacs, band folks, Preppy, . . . .)

Band Geeks, and Drama Kids.

5. What foreign language(s) did you take?
French. Not sure why I took it, and why my parents allowed it. Spanish would have helped a hell of a lot more.

1)If your school had a track and field day, what was your best event? If it didn't then which event do you think you would have been best in? I was the one smoking pot behind the bleachers.

2. What was your favorite subject in school?
Creative Writing and literature

3. Tell something embarrassing that happened to you at school:
Oh Lordy, this was awful. I was a freshman, and on the FIRST day of school, I sashayed into the classroom wearing my multicolored hot pants and halter top (only weighed about 100 lbs at the time and thought I was hot stuff). I was just a tad late and there were not enough desks and nowhere for me to sit, so I spotted a table at the back of the classroom, and went back there and hopped up on it, and.....it came crashing down and I hit the floor. I didn't feel like hot stuff anymore, lol.

4. How would you classify your friend group in school? (Jocks, braniacs, band folks, Preppy, . . . .)
Hippies, lol.

5. What foreign language(s) did you take?
French

I won a ribbon in the sack raise!

I liked everything and History and whatever science class I was taking was my favorites. I loved physics and biology the most. Oh and trig. I <3 TRIG!

In senior English we made a movie instead of taking a final. I remember I was the writer and director and it was based on the Wizard of Oz. There was an action shot where "Dorothy" was supposed to fall down a stairwell (to get a concussion so she would go off to Oz). I didn't think my friend was doing it realistically enough so I kept demanding extra takes.... until she actually DID fall down the stairs and knocked herself out on the landing. What a fantastic CRACK that was! Even though the ambulance came and my friend got admitted I of course used that take! my friends gave me he'll about that! And my friend ended up doing fine. I even cut class for the first time ever to follow the ambulance to the hospital.

I got along with everyone. I was in honors and band but was comfortable hanging out with just about anyone... Except the theater people scared me.

I took a useless dead language: Latin. It was HARD. But I took it for the toga party. I should have taken espanol porque es muy importante hablar espanol aqui en la suroeste de grande. Sigh.

1. I loved the sprint races. I always won the 40-yard dash!

2. I loved math. I loved psychology as well. My favorite individual class was on photography.

3. I got sent to the principal's office in 3rd grade, because a buddy and I thought it was a good idea to hang on the bathroom stall doors and swing back and fourth (of course, while we were suppose to be in class). We did that until one of the doors broke and we both got ass swats (yes, back in the day when you were allowed to spank kids in school).

4. I was a blend of the jocks and outdoorsmen.

5. German, French and Spanish. I liked my foreign languages!

At my school it was 2 years. I was going to take 4, until I discovered the upper levels were taught by a teacher who taught my mom, two uncles, and two sisters. Not to mention he knew my grandmother from church and, umm...she wasn't the most upstanding member. He intimidated the hell out of me. Ever take a class from someone who knows your whole family? It's impossible to quietly skate by.

2. What was your favorite subject in school? Recess, lunch, whatever involved NOT going to class.

3. Tell something embarrassing that happened to you at school. I tried out for cheer leading and busted my ass trying to do a cartwheel.

1. If your school had a track and field day, what was your best event? If it didn't then which event do you think you would have been best in?

Sprinting

2. What was your favorite subject in school?

Anything biology-related. Biology, biochem, microbiology, zoology...

3. Tell something embarrassing that happened to you at school.

My first year in public grade school (6th grade) I didn't realize that you did not have to stand to answer a question (we always had to do that in Catholic school.) I stood to read an essay I'd written (it was funny or supposed to be funny). My wraparound skirt unwrapped in the back. Everyone was laughing, and I thought it was because me essay was so humerous.

4. How would you classify your friend group in school? (Jocks, braniacs, band folks, Preppy, . . . .)

Geeks. Definitely geek. Until senior year, then I became an AV geek. I was on stage crew (creating and moving sets for school plays) so I got to hang out in the AV room

5. What foreign language(s) did you take?

Six years of French. Can't speak more than a word or two and usually not well

When DS was in high school (1999-2003), you only had to take one year of a foreign language. (American sign language was considered a foreign language too). DS refused to take even one year. He had absolutely no interest in going to college. He eventually went through work, but he had to take community college courses before he could get into a university program.

1. If your school had a track and field day, what was your best event? If it didn't then which event do you think you would have been best in? I was a swimmer, so 50 yard freestyle. Running is against my religion

2. What was your favorite subject in school? History.

3. Tell something embarrassing that happened to you at school. I was a tomboy. Back in my day they still had jungle gyms, swings etc. But girls were not allowed to wear pants. No problem, I didn't care and would play on the jungle gym. Got called into principle's office because it was not ok to be on the gg with a dress, but yet I couldn't wear pants. My mom had to go to principle's office. They had a discussion. I wore shorts under my dresses from then on.

4. How would you classify your friend group in school? (Jocks, braniacs, band folks, Preppy, . . . .) Such the party girl. So lots of partiers, but also jocks.

5. What foreign language(s) did you take? Spanish and it did help me when I lived in a few spanish speaking countries.

1. I was a champion hider. I'd have a book and a bottle of water and find the perfect hiding spot. If anyone else had realized that we were playing hide and seek, I'm sure I would have been crowned the supreme hider.

2. Drama - I basically WAS the theater department for awhile. I had a lot of say in what went on. That was too cool!

3. I had a nervous breakdown. In school. Towards the beginning of my freshman year. Got taken away by ambulance and was gone for 3 months. Came back to school and EVERYONE KNEW WHO I WAS! Apparently I am the harmless fun kind of crazy, not the psycho killer kind. I was forever after the "crazy theater chick". Plus side: All through the rest of high school, I got away with being as weird as I wanted to be. I was beyond embarrassment. And, yeah...I took the liberty to be a little on the eccentric side...

4. I was the loner who was never alone. I was welcome in all cliques and belonged to none.

5. Spanish. All that was available. I begged for Sanskrit. I was told no.

1. If your school had a track and field day, what was your best event? If it didn't then which event do you think you would have been best in?

Hurdles and high jump and I had a proud moment surrounding an 800 meter run

2. What was your favorite subject in school?

Music, Art, Math - in no particular order

3. Tell something embarrassing that happened to you at school.

Hard to narrow it down.

Grade school: My mother was the ultimate helicopter parent. Need I say more? My father taught some of the Family Life classes at my school (Family Life being sort of a sex ed program for Catholic schools). It’s really not cool having your dad explain sex to your friends. I can now appreciate the time they took volunteering at the school, but still…

One more: I was publicly dumped from a clique by the leader of the pack. I got my revenge though. For many years, if an obnoxious guy was pestering me for my name and number I’d give him hers' instead.

High school: My older sister and I went to the same school. She was part of a fast and partying crowd and had become mean. As a newly arrived freshman she liked to embarrass me. One day in the hallway she plopped a huge stack of books in my arms and while I was struggling with them she pulled my shorts from underneath my uniform skirt down to my ankles. Thank goodness 8 years of prior experience wearing those skirts taught me to wear shorts underneath. I’m happy to report that my sister and I are now quite close.

4. How would you classify your friend group in school? (Jocks, braniacs, band folks, Preppy, . . . .)

Eclectic. Funny, smart, diverse, sometimes athletic. An array of young women with multiple interests. Mildly partying. Not sure what that’s called. OMG were we the misfits?

I’d like to mention that in addition to my own group and the wealthy/cheerleading/popular group there was a Boy George group.

5. What foreign language(s) did you take?

Spanish in grade school and French in high school. Japanese and Braille shortly after.

It's nice getting to know each other. Thanks for the thread.
