In the spirit of Memorial Day, how many military members, present or former, do we have? What service, etc?

Former Navy Corpsman, 4 years. Come from a family that is heavy military. Most of my father's kin were Army (lots of Rangers), my mother's family was mostly Marine, my step-father and I Navy. All we're missing is Air Force!

So sing it out, loud and proud!

Imagine a ship trying to set sail while towing an anchor. Cutting free is not a gift to the anchor. You must release that burden, not because the anchor is worthy, but because the ship is.

Our DS18 just joined the Army National Guard. He will be going to boot camp this August. Meanwhile, I am having a nervous breakdown.

WH is ex Air Force. My father was in the Naval Academy until he was seriously injured and medically discharged (blessing in disguise, this was right before the Vietnam War started).

Also an uncle who is retired Navy, GFIL who was a WWII vetran, and a soon to be BIL that is a current member of the AF.

Thank you to all who served and to their families!

My paternal grandfather retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force. My dad was Army, then Army Reserves and retired as a Master Sergeant. My uncle (dad's older brother) retired as a Major General in the Army. My brother was Army. 3 cousins in the Air Force, one in the Navy and 1 Army. JM was in the Marines when we met. I have a nephew-in-law who is active duty Army and a nephew who is in the Army Guard. Both of them were deployed to Afghanistan in the past couple of years. And last, but not least, DS15 is in Air Force ROTC and wants to join the Air Force and go to medical school.

Whew!

Thanks to all who have served, and especially those who paid the ultimate price so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we hold so dear.

Let's see...

If we are bringing family military history into the equation...

I qualify for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution and have ancestors that fought on both sides of the Civil War. I am also the Granddaughter of a WWII Pacific theater soldier, Grand Niece of a Pearl Harbor survivor, niece to a Army MP who spent years on the DMZ in Korea in the 70's, daughter of a Naval Officer who served in Vietnam, former wife of a member of the Navy's silent service, and mother to a veteran of the war in Iraq.

I also did 4 years in the Navy myself, pushing papers and boxes at a supply command on the East Coast. I watched many of the Marines I knew from the command go to Kuwait for the First Gulf War.

Like Skan, military service is kinda my 'family business', although my youngest kids aren't interested.

previously married for 20 years

LCDR (that's O-4 for all you unfamiliar with Naval rank), United States Naval Medical Corps.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away (or at least it feels like it)

But hey, looks like the Ruskies are our enemy again. Ah, the good old days :)
