I served in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Medical Assistant for two years....gave me a wonderful career in nursing that I love to this day.
My father served 12 yrs in the British Navy....he spent time in the middle East.
I'm proud of my time served!

My WH is former Army, my sister and BIL are Marines.
To all of the veterans, thank you, and your families, for your service. To those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty, God Bless you and your family. Your loved one is not forgotten, nor was his/her sacrifice in vain. Thank you!
Happy Memorial Day, all!

Former Marine.

Marine Corps motto: Semper Fi, it means "always faithful".

And here I am a BH on SI.

I was in the US Army for 8 years. Not many jobs for tank commanders on the outside though! My FWW is a former Marine.

Former Air National Guard/USAF, Gulf War vet, military police. DH same but crew chief, re-enlisted after 9/11, now commissioned. Have strong military family, nearly every male member of the family until this generation on my side has served for many decades/centuries and we have all branches covered except Coast Guard, although that might be partially covered by Merchant Marines

Thank you all here for your service! And thank you, too, spouses.

Former Canadian Air Force member, served in the communications branch. Also did a tour of duty in Afghanistan as a civilian. The military over there impressed the hell out of me. Some of those soldiers were 18, 19 years old. I wanted to hug every one of them. I stood on a ramp ceremony over there and had a young American military girl standing beside me bawling her eyes out through the whole ceremony. It broke my friggin heart.

I forgot to add:

My father joined the Navy as soon as he could. He wanted to serve as all his 4 older brothers did in WWII. One of my Uncles was a POW in a German prison camp. It was horrible, and I despise the show "Hogans Heroes". Another Uncle was "shell shocked" which I believe now they call PTSD and never really recovered.

Father joined when he was 17. Two months later, the war ended. Although he was never active duty, he is still a veteran.

eta: Forgot to add how very grateful I am to every single one of you on this thread who has served and/or any of your family members who have served. THANK YOU!

Wow! There are a lot of us! Glad to hear all of your stories!

Imagine a ship trying to set sail while towing an anchor. Cutting free is not a gift to the anchor. You must release that burden, not because the anchor is worthy, but because the ship is.

Hey, I'm late to the party! I was in the Air Force for 8 years a lifetime ago, 1979-1987, radio communications analyst. Both my parents were in the Navy in the 50s - Dad a hospital corpsman and Mom a nurse. They grew up 40 miles away from each other but never met until they were halfway across the country at a Navy base.

Thanks to all for your service and sacrifice.
