Y'all are nuts!

I don't particularly LIKE snakes, but I did have compassion for it. I wouldn't have been able to stick around if anyone was going to kill it.

It's a very lovely snake. Thank you for not killing it

I don't mind snakes. Not that I'd invite them for dinner. We have mostly small garter snakes around here, but the ocassional rat snake.

I am very nearsighted and don't wear my glasses very much. Once when I got a new pair, I went out back and looked out into the woods and was very annoyed to see that some hooligans had left a large, black trash bag wrapped around a tree not too far from our property line. It was shiny and smooth and appeared to be inflated in some way. Imagine my surprise when it began to move and uncoiled itself and climbed down the tree. I think it was easily 6 feet.

And we have subsequently found babies on our deck.

I love snakes, so long as they mind their own business and don't eat anything in front of me.

I'm not gonna invite snakes to dinner either... but they're ok in my book.

But Rattlesnake tastes like chicken! We used to live in Lometa (po dunk Texas) and every year the biggest event was the rattlesnake roundup. They'd catch about 2000 and auction them off by the pound for meat and their skin. I'll be nice and not post any pictures

Why not just eat chicken then?

scaredyKat, it sounds like you're describing a rat snake on the tree, but that baby looks like a corn snake, to me. Both are "good" snakes.

I've never seen a pink rattler. Are they as deadly as the other rattlers?

No snake for me! I'll stick with chicken! I DO call steak "snake" as a joke, though! Especially "Snake & Eggs".

I'm with ya on not minding snakes, but I do take exception with Rattlers and Copperheads.

We live in the edge of the wilderness, and every year we kill a few copperheads, and Sunday we had the fortunate event of having one in our garage. He is no more.

I leave all others alone. Those Rat snakes are awesome. They will keep the mice, and chipmunk population under control for sure.

Now the Rattlers we have are timber rattlers, and I have lived there since I was 7, I have NEVER seen one myself, but my Great Dane did have the misfortune of being bit by one, twice as a young lady. The vet knew it was a rattler, by how she responded to the poison, copperhead poison acts differently.

Timber rattlers can be very hard to see (so can copperheads). I've seen an Eastern Diamondback in the wild. I was fascinated by it, but kept a respectful distance because I knew it could drop me and I wouldn't have a chance, since the rattlers turn your blood to Jello- and I was alone. ANY snake scares me, but the rattlers terrify me!

If I'm correct, corn snakes are a kind of rat snakes. I think we are too far north for corn snakes. I've never heard of one in our vicinity, and I gave seen rat snakes a lot.

I could be wrong, it happened once before!

Welcome - while your math is logical, it's not necessarily right.

I have never had/seen/killed a singular copperhead. It seems there are always at least two. Oh and the nasty buggers give birth to live babies, not eggs. That's fun to kill a momma, and have a bunch of babies come out. I have had it happen to me twice. Its the stuff nightmares are made out of.

OMG thanks for that nightmare heads up. Good thing I can't seem to grow the cohones to kill one. There is now actually an upside to that.....

I thought this one would look like a baby compared to Florida snakes.

I grew up in Ft Lauderdale-and would catch snakes routinely with my brothers. I knew what kind they were and which were safe. Now-no way!

One word: shovel.

Fun for target practice.
The rattlers where I live come right up to the door. Had to train my dog to wait for Mami to check before he can walk out of the house now. He got bit 3X last fall and almost didn't make it.
And snake does taste good. Especially if all you've eaten for days on end were MREs.

I don't need further confirmation of what a fuckwit he is. I already have plenty, thanks very much. -SBB
