My DD is "graduating" from preschool tomorrow night....she will continue to stay there for the summer and then will start kindergarten in the fall.
I have a friend whose son is also graduating from preschool soon and she is going all out....she is having a graduation party for him in a couple weeks.
I dont want to go that far, but am going to have a cake for DD tomorrow night and both sets of grandparents are coming. I want to make it special for her especially since my husband wont be there.
I want to get her a little present, but is that a silly thing to do? What do I get for a preschool graduation gift?

How about a DVD of a movie she'd like? I used to give DS a DVD or a game for occasions like Easter (in lieu of candy).
I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.

Back in the olden days when my kids *graduated* from preschool, the school held a social hour after the ceremony with cake & punch. Done. Good enough.
Kids these days *graduate* from prek, K, sometimes 3rd grade, 5th grade, 8th grade, HS & College. My family agreed when it all started that we would only celebrate/gift the graduate at the HS grad level.
I strongly encourage people - especially those with large extended families - to talk about this kind of stuff early.

I think the cake is enough... but if you absolutely feel like you want to buy her a gift, how about something that celebrates her advancement into "real" school... like a new backpack or lunch box or something similar.

Just remember for each graduation you have to take it up a notch from the prior celebration.
There will be Kg grad, possibly one each time you move to a new level of school, depending on your school system that can be every 3 years. That's a lot of graduations.
I have 2 in HS, and for the little ones, like this we had lots of pictures, and usually a special meal, going out to dinner with Grandparents. That was it.
Next year we have the whole HS Graduation thing, I'm not planning on having a big shindig. There is so much stuff the school does that I don't see a need.

Congrats, mamma! My GS just graduated preschool last Friday
We just had a very small immediate family gathering (10 people) with burgers and dogs. My DH and I gave him $40 to put in his piggy bank and a "congrats grad" balloon.
He was happy to hang out with his family and play with his cousin and baby sis.
And as tushnurse said, your DD will graduate K next year, and so on...

When I was in school there was junior high school promotion and senior high school graduation. On your elementary school report card it would say "promoted to the _____ grade". Pre-school and kindergarten "graduations" were unheard of.
On the other hand, any excuse for a party, I say!
