The kids and I have been cleaning and clearing. We've been in this house for 12 years so the stuff has added up!. The ex left on April 28 and his initial "request" was that the house be sold (that deadline has passed) and us out by the end of the summer. THAT IS NOT HAPPENING - but, it's obvious that it will happen at some point so I've started the early process of getting rid of junk.

The garage is now half-full of the kids old stuff and some of my junk ready for a garage sale. I told the ex it's out there and we're having the sale saturday. If he wants to look through it all he is welcome but it's not coming back in the house. What doesn't sell will be donated/garbage.

of course, he freaked. "According to law, you are not allowed to sell anything or take anything from the house without my consent. I'll have to see everything that you plan on selling." ok - well, shall we mention the computer, wireless speaker, camping equipment (boys toys) that you walked out of the house with?? didn't say it but I wanted to (I've itemized those in the house inventory that he has in his possession - it adds to over $10,000)

My response "I'll have the boys send you pictures of what they want to sell. You are welcome to take it all - if you prefer to take it I'll have it boxed for you for tuesday."

that send him backtracking a bit..not willing to take it himself, just doesn't want me doing anything with it. "I'm not suggesting I take anything. You know that. You also know that if it were me taking things out of the house you would want to know. And I'd tell you."

Shall I mention the 20 bags of garbage and 10 boxes that have already gone?? Farewell to the rubbish! (him included)

I'd love to have a witty response but I'm not sure it's worth the effort. I will ask the kids to take some pics tomorrow to send him. It's crap (and absolutely nothing belongs to him) and the boys think they can make some summer fun money with it. I just don't want it coming back in the house!

Pfffft. WTFE.
Since he wants the house sold, inform him he can have first dibs at his stuff. Lay it all out on the table for sale and give him an hour before the sale to come get whatever he wants.

I don't need further confirmation of what a fuckwit he is. I already have plenty, thanks very much. -SBB

Exactly!! Amazing how they have so many demands, but don't want to do any of the work themselves! I took the easy way out. I packed what the kids and I wanted and moved. Dipshit had to deal with the junk left behind.

Edited to correct stupid typos.

Two steps forward and one step backwards, is still progress.

He may also be wanting half of the proceeds. Be ready for that.

If he wants half the proceeds, be sure to deduct your cleaning fee, organization fee, and commission from his portion.
That should net him a cool dollar.

ETA:
After all, why should you do all the work of cleaning, sorting, organizing, and selling while he sits on his butt with his hand out?

^^^ This. I love it.
Any way you can just sell your stuff and pack up and leave? Let him get his shit out and do everything.

I wish I could just pack and leave. But, this is the boys' home and they are both entering their final years in their schools (high school and elementary) so they have asked to stay until the end of the next school year.
I'm doing what I can to make that happen but meanwhile, there is crap everywhere! I thought I would clean and clear throughout the oncoming months instead of trying to do it all at once next spring. Or if/when he manages to force us out.
I've sent him pics of the "pile" and told him to let me know if he prefers it boxed or cleared out. Either way it's not coming back in the house.

And the $$ he'll have to ask the boys for. This is their summer fun money - pay for helping me clear it all. They may manage to get $100 if they're lucky.
