1) I participated in a "best legs" competition and won. It was menz only competitors. And no, I didn't shave my legs. Funny at the time but kind of embarrasing when I think about it now.
2) Coasters by far. Or really high water slides.
3) Loading up with 3 of my coworkers as a teen and taking a 3hr roadtrip to the nearest amusement park for the weekend. Had a blast.
4) The dunk tank
5) funnel cake

1) Have you ever participated in a competition like beauty contest or livestock showing or art contest at a fair? Sadly, no.

2) Spin rides, coasters, or green benches, which is your favorite? Coasters!

3) Describe a favorite childhood memory at a carnival, fair, or amusement park. My grandmother took my sister, brother & I to Seattle when I was 15. She went out with her ladies auxiliary friends every day, and we went to the Fairgrounds of the former Seattle World's Fair. We rode the monorail from our hotel. My best memory was licorice ice cream.

4) What is your favorite game? Blowing up the balloons with water.

5) What is your favorite fair food? I grew up with Italian feasts in my hometown. There were two each summer. The best sausage & pepper sandwiches and zeppole (fried dough with powdered sugar) Yum!

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.

1. Nope

2. Coasters

3. My dad was a volunteer fireman and they had a carnival every year. Dad was the one that took us on all the rides As I got older, I more appreciated that he was chairman of the beer tent!

4. Never really played the games (we weren't allowed as kids). My dd was always a solid little girl - she loved the *guess my weight* game as they would always guess way lower than she actually was so she would win. every. time.

5. Funnel Cakes. and French Fries.

1) Have you ever participated in a competition like beauty contest or livestock showing or art contest at a fair?

I took home best in show, first and second place in an art show one year when I was in high school.

2) Spin rides, coasters, or green benches, which is your favorite?

Is green benches not riding? If so, that would probably be the most accurate but I've been on a few coasters that weren't terrible.

3) Describe a favorite childhood memory at a carnival, fair, or amusement park.

Well it wasn't the best memory at the time, but one year my grandma finally agreed to let my sisters and I on a ride. It was a roller coaster like 3 feet off the ground and we were middle school and high school age at the time. As if being on it wasn't embarrassing enough, as soon as the ride started my oldest sister started panicking and made them stop the ride to let her off.

4) What is your favorite game?

I like skeeball at the arcade. I don't trust carnies so I never play anything at the fairs.

5) What is your favorite fair food?

Indian fry bread with honey and powdered sugar.

No contests.

Even though I could go to Six Flags at anytime it was always a highlight to go to the Texas State Fair and look at Big Tex, and the new cars, the Ferris wheel and looking down on Grambling or Southern playing in the cotton bowl.

My favorite ride was anything fast, spinning and going
Upside down.

A favorite memory was taking my best friend there one weekend while we were in med school. She was from Ottawa and hadn't seen anything as glorious as the Cotton bowl!

My favorite is skeeball but I've lost a ton of money on ring tosses over the years.

My favorite food was the turkey drumsticks but during the aforementioned med school trip I was unable to finish it since I was in the middle if gross anatomy. I threw it away and have never had one since. Now I'd have to say a footling corn dog.

Nope.

competition people-watching from the green bench
Describe a favorite childhood memory at a carnival, fair, or amusement park.
the Belgian waffles at the NY Expo --when I couldn't have been more than --3--were pretty amazing.
What is your favorite game?
totally appalled by it now, but when I was a kid, I loved the roulette wheel upon which they released a mouse; whatever number the mouse ran into was the winner. The prize? Cartons of cigarettes or twelve packs of gum. And yes, they gave the cigarettes to kids. (It just dawned on me why my parents always gave me fair money; it was a money-saver for them in the end.)
What is your favorite fair food?
Yes.

1. I canned a lot as a child and won something almost every year. I also entered fresh vegetables from my garden and baked goods. Once I entered some ceramic pottery I had painted. I'm thinking this year I will enter the Christmas dress I made my daughter in the sewing category. And maybe some photographs in the amateur photography category.

2. Spinning rides. Heights and sharp falls toward the ground terrify me. I really like the tilt-a-whirl!

3. Our county fair used to have a huge model train display. I would sit and watch the trains through the windows until my dad literally drug me away.

4. Darts. Always has been.

5. Funnel cake, roasted corn, fresh squeezed lemonade, deep fried caramel apple and the green chile pork wraps. (Our fair is the second full week of August and I'm already counting down the days until I get to indulge in these favorites. Even the things I can get elsewhere just taste better at the fair).

1) Have you ever participated in a competition like beauty contest or livestock showing or art contest at a fair?

I participated in 4H, for three years--I showed cattle.

2) Spin rides, coasters, or green benches, which is your favorite?

COASTERS!!! Next time you do Coasters, Moo, you have to take me with you

3) Describe a favorite childhood memory at a carnival, fair, or amusement park.

I was like 6 years old--it was the first time I was able to ride "big kid" rides. I ate so much crap and rode so many spin rides that I ended up puking in a Dr's yard

4) What is your favorite game?

The fish game. Is there any other game!?!

5) What is your favorite fair food?
Elephant Ears and Lemon Shake-Ups

1. No shows or contests

2. Coaster fanatic

3. County fair time with all the cheesy rides, exhibits, demo derby, tractor pulls, and FOOD. I always looked forward to it

4. There was a multiplayer carnival game where you tossed balls into a trash can whose lid rose and fell. I could win that one almost every time.

5. I've seen many listed but one that I haven't seen is Tom Thumb donuts

1) Have you ever participated in a competition like beauty contest or livestock showing or art contest at a fair?

No. But I almost won a twist contest in 1965.

2) Spin rides, coasters, or green benches, which is your favorite?

Benches--whatever their colour. Spins and coasters make me nauseous. I waited for my kids on the ground.

3) Describe a favorite childhood memory at a carnival, fair, or amusement park.

Since I grew up in a tiny Newfoundland outport (i.e., a spot not serviced by a road, but accessible by boat), you might imagine there were few opportunities to attend carnivals, fairs or amusement parks. The closest I got to an amusement park was when Mrs. Murphy (who wore dresses with bloomers year round) slipped on the ice.

4) What is your favorite game?

Musical Chairs, otherwise known as finding a bench to sit on till the kids come back to earth. Another game I played a lot was Hand Over the Money.

5) What is your favorite fair food?

I wouldn't normally call that stuff "food", but deep-dried Snickers bars have occasionally crossed my mouth's threshold.

1) Have you ever participated in a competition like beauty contest or livestock showing or art contest at a fair? NOPE

2) Spin rides, coasters, or green benches, which is your favorite? Coasters, but as I age I just like the old wooden ones that don't flip you upside down.

3) Describe a favorite childhood memory at a carnival, fair, or amusement park.
When I was about 12 a group of my friends got a gross carny guy operating the tilt a whirl to start dancing to the music blaring. We were cheering and egging him on. I guess we thought he was cute. Now I think, Ick!

4) What is your favorite game? They had a big display of glass items that you would throw dimes at and if they went in or on you would win the item. I got a cheesy blue "jar" sort of thing that I have had for the last 35 years.

5) What is your favorite fair food? Funnel cakes or Proto pups (aka Pogo) (aka corn dogs) depending on where you are from.

1) Have you ever participated in a competition like beauty contest or livestock showing or art contest at a fair?

It was some type of fair but can't remember what kind....my sister and I entered a bubble-gum bubble blowing contest. All I remember is chewing some huge wad of gum and that neither of us won. I think I was about 10 years old.

2) Spin rides, coasters, or green benches, which is your favorite?

coasters all the way! give me those that take off, flip ya around for a few spins, go down the gut-wrenching hill and twirl ya upside down a few times...you'll definitely find me on those! wahoo!!

But oddly enough, no old wooden ones for me; not because I don't like them but they are too herky-jerky for me and my neck suffers the next day.

3) Describe a favorite childhood memory at a carnival, fair, or amusement park.

I remember my 2 sisters and I went to Disneyworld with my grandparents and we sat in front of the Epcot prototype sign for a picture...when Epcot was still in the planning stages and not yet built. pretty cool picture

4) What is your favorite game?

Weren't allowed to play any of the games; my parents said they were a waste of money. But I always liked watching people playing that Bop-the-Gopher, or whatever it's called, game.

Actually, that brings back another memory. My mom watched people playing that game and suddenly decided she wanted to play it. She played, we watched. She would scream each time she tried to bop that gopher head as it popped up.

5) What is your favorite fair food?
corn dogs, fried dough with sugar, cotton candy, caramel apples, bratwurst, sausage with peppers.

1) Have you ever participated in a competition like beauty contest or livestock showing or art contest at a fair? Never

2) Spin rides, coasters, or green benches, which is your favorite? Coasters! I love the Big Bad Wolf at Bush Gardens. And I grew up near the 8th oldest amusement park in the US that had the oldest wooden coasters in the world (built in 1894). I loved that roller coaster.

3) Describe a favorite childhood memory at a carnival, fair, or amusement park. Riding the carousel at that park (all wood, with camels and swans, giraffes, etc. among the horses, and an old-time clown-faced caliope - built in 1902). The horses went up and down and as kid, it was the most exciting thing ever. Later, the haunted house became my favorite spot. And my Mom's company had their annual picnic there, with fireworks over the lake and three-legged races and good bar-b-q.

4) What is your favorite game? Throwing the beanbag through the hoops.

5) What is your favorite fair food? Candy apples. Yum.

2) Spin rides, coasters, or green benches, which is your favorite? **coasters and then spins, but all are good

3) Describe a favorite childhood memory at a carnival, fair, or amusement park. **childhood? So you don't want to know about the times we used to get baked and go on the Zipper as teens?

4) What is your favorite game? **I like the water gun where you make the horses race or you blow up the balloon in the clown's head. I win that often.

5) What is your favorite fair food? **look, so here's the deal. I'm a simple woman, deep down. There's a lot I will do for a corn dog.

1. I don't remember. There's a vague memory of something related to art or photography as a kid.
I do remember being asked to go into a wet t-shirt contest in college, however, and I said, umm…Hell NO.

2. Water rides or sitting on the bench.

3. My childhood nemesis (a friend with who I had much conflict) threw one of my shoes onto the roof of a building. I had to walk home with one shoe. It was not a favorite memory at the time but it is now because I miss him. RIP buddy.

4. Ring Toss; Crown and Anchor

5. Cotton Candy

Growing forward
