I came across a used car for sale. It seems to be in solid shape. 2005 Jaguar XKR with 62K miles. Can anyone tell me anything about them? Maintenance issues, etc.?

I swore I'd never have another British car but Jaguar has come a long way

Thanks TR!
Yes, I don't have details but I did hear indirectly that Jags got much better after Ford acquired the company.

They're asking price is a little high to me though ($18,900) especially since it needs new tires, but they said they'd listen to any offers. It drove very nicely.

*poof* the huge Baby Jaguar pic.

Oops, sorry, wrong jaguar.

(ETA - sorry about the size of the pic - I was trying to be obnoxious but not THAT obnoxious. I don't know how to resize it).

Lucas "Prince of Darkness" electrical system.

It's good they look pretty, since you spend so much time outside them while they're being fixed...

That's the reputation of Jaguar. It's been a long time since I looked, though.

Take care of yourself. There's a great future out there. It won't come to you; you have to go to it.

Call around and get prices on normal maintenance items. Over $1,000 for brakes isn't uncommon.

Remember, these were engineered as expensive cars. They have expensive parts and take expensive labor. Even though they're asking about a quarter of what it costs new, fixing it doesn't get cheaper.

As long as you can afford to fix it when it breaks, or just needs brakes, go for it

I'm with TrustedHer.

My Dad and stepmom have owned a couple and my dad says never again. They are very problematic and expensive to fix.

Oh, and check out the maintenance intervals on the supercharger. Those can't be neglected either

Thanks everyone. Although I could afford the cost of the maintenance I don't want the headache so I think I'll pass on this one.

**sigh**

It looks so pretty though!

Here's hoping you find another beauty to replace it.

Here's how to handle this opportunity that you'd love to take advantage of - go here to see photos of the E-type Jag: https://www.google.com/search?q=e-type+jaguar&num=100&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-Address&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=eWe9U8jLG4iRyAT68oHwBw&ved=0CCgQ7Ak&biw=1218&bih=691

You'll see the later jags are real downgrades, at least in appearance....

I love jags- years ago I had an old x-type and loved it and just recently my brother got an XF...

The F-Type is also a dream car of mine.

With my old X-Type I never really had any reliability issues- I only sold it because of the tax/fuel costs.

Older models were a nightmare in our northern climate. I hear they have come a long way, though.

Brandon, Jaguars are my heart :) I absolutely love them and I'm on my third. They are the most dependable cars I have ever owned and are good for 300,000+ miles if maintained properly. I have owned mainly XJ Jags but I now have a XK8 convertible. They drive like a dream.

One thing you definitely need to do if you buy this car is find a Jaguar mechanic and take it there for oil changes, etc. It's always best to find a certified Jag mechanic NOT with any dealership but one who has their own garage. You will save tons of money on any future work you might have to have done. I am currently looking at a XKR convertible to buy as I really love their body styles.

Go for it. 62,000 miles is NOTHING for a Jag. Also check to see if it has all maintenance records as that is a big help.
