My first trip to London has been a huge success. I love how cosmopolitan it is and how busy. I have felt safe the entire time.

My hotel is a little gem, and I sadly check out in the morning. It has a lovely garden in the back that really surprised me as well as the free breakfast they serve. No where in the USA would one get attentive service, bountiful choices including fruit, cheeses including Brie, fresh fruits, cereals, yogurt, cold cuts, fresh breads, croissants, and English breakfast items such as yummy sausages (much different than USA breakfast sausage and I prefer the UK type, baked beans, mushrooms, and cooked tomatoes. Plus champagne for mimosas...and tea, jam and cream with no additional charge.

The hotel was a moderate priced place in an old townhome in a quaint neighborhood 5 minutes from the tube.

I am proud of myself I that I learned to use the tube and the money. LOL.

What fun, and I cannot wait to come back for a longer visit. Today, I was so enthralled at St. Paul's Cathedral I spent all day ending with Evensong which made me burst into tears because it was so beautiful. Where I live in the USA no church is like this. Even got to sit in the quire...also climbed to the top of the dome. I figured it was better to throw myself into something I loved versus racing around like a crazy person to see as much as I could.

Only thing - everything in London is at least twice as expensive as in USA. But it was worth every pound!!

I did the St. Paul's climb. It's pretty amazing.

Did you stay in Kensington?

I went to England once. I didn't get to see London but it was fabulous. I agree about breakfasts there. And just seeing "jam and cream" in your post brought back the wunderment that is clotted cream. Sigh. I dream about clotted cream.

European churches and castles -- there are no words for how incredibly beautiful so many of them are.
