This is awesome. Sex in a YA novel? Yes! Relevant to my interests.

It's like the perfect distillation of Buffy and Harry Potter, but with plenty going on to keep it from feeling derivative. And I love the mapping to the social structure of pre-revolutionary Russia.

I read the first three, have to stop by B&N this afternoon for 4 and 5.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Sort of..

I refuse to be ignored. Listen, I bought a trade paperback to read on the plane on the way back because I had no cord with me to get the 4th installment on my ebook reader. This meant that I was sitting in airports/planes at the age of 39 and a weight of somewhere just south of 200 lbs reading a book no one could deny was teen vampire fiction. Do you understand my level of enjoyment, if I was willing to embody a TwiMom stereotype in public when I am NOT A TWIMOM?

Read these books!

I won't shelve those books in the youth section because of the sex.
I always warn the parents because so many don't pay attention and they are bringing their 12 year olds up to the counter with those books.

Can I just tell you how many 12 year old girls are completely pissed at me in this town?

Oh, I finished it. I bought it in the Atlanta airport. Thankfully, hardcover, which meant I could remove the jacket and conceal it. =)

I'm highly, highly suspicious of Ms. Tasha Ozera, that's all I have to say.

Just finishing the Queen Betsy series (Undead and Unwed is the first one) so I'll start this series next on your recommendation.

I love my Kindle because nobody knows what I'm reading.

First title is Vampire Academy.

1. Vampire Academy
2. Frostbite
3. Shadow Kiss
4. Blood Promise
5. Spirit Bound
6. Last Sacrifice

Also has serious positives in the fact that it's primarily plot driven, strong relationships between female characters, clever handling of multiple POV while remaining a first person narrative, and most importantly to me in a YA (something that both Buffy and Harry Potter do so well), you learn along with the characters that the cake is a lie, except when it's not. The world-building is excellent on that point. You can really see how the dhampir *and* the Moroi have been ill served by the lies.

End up continuing to totally parallel Buffy in that Buffy/Rose will end up with neither Angel/Dimitri nor Adrian/Spike, but will inform everyone that she's like cookies and is not done baking yet.

No Vampire book will ever be better than "Dracula". I was older than 11 when I read it, but it is one of only two books that gave me nightmares. All vampire stories were allegories for dangerous sex. Curent vampire stories are ABOUT dangerous sex.

LadyV--
I read where they are making a VA movie--certainly with sequels, tshirts, and happy meals to follow.

Yeah, and they shouldn't. It should be a tv series, not a film series. Doesn't lend itself at all to film.

You'd think Showtime would want their own vampire thing or something.

About 55% (according to my Kindle Blackberry app) into number four and I am soooo hooked.

I cannot wait to see how all this turns out.

It's a really tight and clean series. I admire its construction. She has control of her story. She is *not* writing a glorified blog post, kwim? There's no rambling. It's economical.

Yeah, but IIRC she's said she wants to continue to write inside the world she's created. She's got a lot of directions she could pursue, I think. It's a nice setup.

I think the final will be out in October or something.

I really love this series. This author also writes another series about Georgina Kincaid (succubus series) that is also awesome. I really dig her stuff.
