Thanks for posting this!!!!

I checked with our library a few weeks back and they said they were just waiting on Kindle, they were raring to go but had not gotten the go ahead and had no timeline for me. I was/am impatient.

I was but now I am

Yeah!!!!

have y'all tried it yet? I realized I need to renew my library card - it's been a while....
But I am excited! I never bought books growing up - just went to the library every week and left with an armful of books to plow through....ah, the good old days!

Just found out ours started a week or so ago - yahoo! I haven't had a library card with them since... oh, probably before the Internet so that plus my name change means I need to go get a new card (with a PIN for online use), then I can check out kindle books from the website for 2 weeks at a time. How cool! I used to simply avoid our local library because of the awful parking issues downtown. Now, no need to leave the house!

net - yeah, I was checking it out and pretty much any book I was actually wanting to read has a waiting list about 30 deep. Oh well. Guess I need to come up with something a little more obscure or shell out some $$$ for instant gratification!

How does that work for a library? After you download it isn't it yours or do they swipe it off in two weeks (or whatever is the given amount of time)?

Sandcrab, after it expires it is no longer readable or openable. In theory.

If you aren't finished reading something, turn off the wireless or G3 so the reader doesn't "know". Also, don't plug it back into the PC. Oh, and don't close it and try to reopen it.

Getting that puppy off the device once it has expired is strictly a manual deal. And I still haven't figured out how to get it off the Kindle app on my droid, in spite of what I tell Amazon to do with it.

Yeah, I know all the tricks.

Last I heard my library has every other ebook except Kindle.

But I have a Nook, anyway.

Keep calm and carry on.

Mine too but it's darn hard to get a book to read--waiting lists a mile long.

Our library has kindle e-books as well. If you have an ipad you can download the kindle app and read them on the ipad, I love it!

My library has the kindle file plus an "epub" file that you can apparently read in firefox.

At our library site, the kindle version of each book usually has a 20 person waiting list to the epub version's 5. And if we put it "on hold" and they tell you your turn has come, but you don't open the file within 48 hours you lose your hold and have to get back in line.
