If you're in the Ann Arbor area, will the football game on the 5th impact availability og hotel/motel rooms?

W says she wants to take some weekend trips, so October in MI sounds like a definite possibility.

LD looked up the hotel that we stayed at for the MI g2g a couple of years ago. Reasonably priced and convenient, location-wise.

As we get closer I can PM the info if anybody's interested.

when you say dancing, are we talking about the infamous club, home of the back up butt dancer?

Nice!

add loudmouth, nervous drinker and mr one post wonder as maybe's

k9-

the back-up butt dancer was a lovely fellow we encountered at the club previously who was quite adept at weaseling into a group of ladies dancing with a combination of backing up hops and pseudo/pre-modern twerking, while trying to secure one lady to return his 'affections'

it was quite the sight to see, let me tell you!!!!

Please switch us from yes to not sure if we can make it . LD had to go to Florida unexpectedly last month to deal with a family situation and we may have to go again in the upcoming months to check on things with FIL. Since he doesn't have an endless supply of vacation days, we might have to save them.

But, we will try, and I'll let you know as it gets closer.

BR, the first page isn't up to date.

It looks like k94ever, traildad, sodamnlost & sodamnsorry, and NIK are in.

It looks like authenticnow and LD may not be able to attend.

Anywho, change us to a DEFINITE! We're coming hell or high water...it's not that far of a drive, so even if we can only make it for Saturday, we'll be there

(((LD & AN))) I hope you can still make it, but I'm sure everyone will understand if you're unable to! I hope things get better for you guys!

Thanks, Mama.

LD's stepfather is elderly and living alone (his mom died almost 10 years ago). FIL's health is declining and he was living in an unhealthy environment, not taking care of himself and his health rapidly declining. LD and his sister got him into an assisted living facility. So far so good but there is so much to attend to, and with him there and us here and nobody down there to help it's tough. Plus, now they are in the process of getting the apartment cleaned up. There was mold, filth, etc. It was unlivable. They had no idea how bad it was until they got down there. Very sad.

Anyway, that's what's going on. Thanks for your concern.

Our hearts will always be with the MI g2g. That was our first one years ago and it had a huge impact on us! We <3 BR and WH5!

Very sorry to hear of your Dad's/FIL's old living conditions, but happy to hear they've improved.

We're 50-50 on attending, so I guess that makes us 'maybe'.

T/J - if you want a really nasty view of Julius, read Robert Harris's novels about Cicero - Imperium, Conspirata (Lustrum in the UK), and ? (due out this year). End T/J

Personally, it's the Vikings stuff that makes me wonder....

Leave us on the Yes list, but we may not be able to make it until late Fri or early Sat. I start a new job later this month and I don't get off work until at least 5pm, so it would be like 8 or so before we could make it, on Fri.

All those WI/MN peeps who are thinking about going.......start thinking harder and seriously look into this.

T minus 58 days and counting.

Starting in September I'm going to be forming the contingent up.

Viking Helmets (with or without the braids), Cheese Hats (with or without the plastic bratwurst and baby cheese necklace), and 'Leinies are optional but encouraged.

I would really like to get a good sized group to go and show just how much fun WI/MN people are.

k9 - Can we extend that to include IA? No special headgear required. Promise.

There's a slim chance I'll be flying, but if not, I'd love to ride share with you northerners, at least for part of the drive. Maybe rendezvous around Gary?

I'd be happy to ride along with an Iowan. My youngest DD went to college in IA - good people there too! And I don't even own a cheesehead.

We might need a bus...

No, I meant YOU make the brownies!

How am I bringing brownies to YOUR house? You're like a master baker!

I'll bring wine. I can do wine a lot better than I bake!

Me: "We're going to Detroit!"

Usual response: "Why? What's in Detroit?"

(Not to mention that we're going to Vegas later in the month and I'm more excited about Detroit than Vegas!)

...I just checked DS's Cross Country schedule and that's the weekend of his state meet. We won't be able to make it after all If it was a normal meet, I wouldn't worry about it, but it's the state meet and there's a good chance he will run varsity (esp if not all of the kids decide to run). So we won't be there...I was so looking forward to meeting everyone too

Imagine walking into a place with a group of people who, even though you've never met IRL, you feel like they are old friends who totally get you and welcome you and hug you (if you're comfortable with hugs).

Imagine laughing, chatting about everyday stuff, having an open ear to talk about deep stuff if you want to/need to. Imagine good food, alcohol if you so desire, and a lot of laughing, maybe some dancing, and definitely some silliness.

This is what it's like.

Yes, because I definitely might go in for a hug without realizing (picturing WH5's face the first time I met him) .

Maybe we need a SI no-hug signal?

Regretfully having to bow out of attending.

I don't think my wife would be receptive at this point to attend, and seeing that we recently had some forward momentum in a MC type of function I think that attending solo would be counterproductive.

I'm a bit bummed out as this is taking place not too far from where we live, and it would have been wonderful to finally meet you all.

Perhaps WE will be able to attend the next one! Have a blast everyone.

You don't need a car. Just a boat. So just plow up Niagara falls through The Great lakes and Bam you're there. Robocop will then escort you to the g2g site.

olive oil
parmesan cheese, grated
fresh bread
or
wine

If you feel like bringing anything. If not, just yourselves!

There are links to the websites of the places in the PM that BR sent. I'm thinking casual. But don't forget to wear your best disco dancing apparel for Saturday night pt. 2.

Friday night definitely casual. I'm wearing my pajama pants for our long drive on Friday---I may not even change. Just kidding .

BR and WH5 make sure you save the same chair I sat in at the
g2g 6 years ago. I called it I want it. If anyone sits in that chair I will have to go fuckin go Brooklyn on them. That includes you Moo. Now that i got that of my chest cant wait to see some old friends and make some new.

I haven't looked at his thread for a long time because I knew I couldn't make it. This was finally a G2G that was in my neck of the woods.

Wow! I am so excited for all of you, but really sad for me. Especially now that I see the Big Kahuna's from TX are going to be there!

Looks like an amazing group of people and sounds like fun already. I am sure I don't have to say it, but have a great time everyone. Have safe trips and Godspeed to everyone!

I know what you mean, I wouldn't believe it either if I wasn't here in it. I refuse to put the A/C on though. It's October!!!! I keep taking my jacket places thinking I will need it.

If people had delicious french toast, then they should at least share pics of it. Damn it.....I'm hungry for french toast.

Here I'll share some of my freshly made internet french toast. Dig in.

I was wondering why I was willing to risk my DS17's wrath tomorrow morning by waking him early to go to IHOP with me.
I was craving their stuffed french toast, but I didn't remember why. Until I checked into this thread again. Oh, yeah, they had french toast with out us in MI today.

We made it home. The rest of them will still be out dancing the night away.

We had a GREAT time. It was wonderful to meet everyone! So glad we were able to go.

Sorry no photos, except the hundreds my husband took of the animals at the zoo.

Yes, there were otters and penguins! I didn't take pics...sorry .

We just got back from the disco club, some of the others are still there but we were exhausted.

Dinner was wonderful and the club was a blast.

WH5 and BR, thank you so much for your generosity in opening up your home to all of us and for planning such a perfect weekend.

Thank you, wh5 and BR for a fabulous time!

What a great weekend - "old" friends and new, amazing food (I bow down to you, BR), dancing, geekery, the zoo and on and on. We even ended last night with a bona fide butt dancer sighting.

I don't think there were many foodporn photos taken because, well....Moo was shirking his responsibilities....or was he too busy twerking? We'll have to wait and see.

NIK, what do you have against meerkats?

I don't want to risk being banned (along with LD), so I'll add one more and hope it will make up for that last one.

Now I need to know all about the new camera!

Me too, I'll have to pry it out of my husband's hands!

Thanks again to WH5 (excellent directions btw) and BR for all their planning and hard work. Much appreciated.

IN my defense, DS, I did NOT know they put a snake (the meerkats mortal enemy) in the same room as the Meerkats.

I have no idea why they did that either. Seems kinda mean.

Thanks so much to all, and especially to BR and WH5 who did so much work to organize the weekend and make a week's worth of food for us.

BR, those chocolate chip cookies were fantastic, as were the special Michigan cherries in that sauce....

We laughed more, and more intensely, Friday might than any other time in the last 4 years.

Oh, yeah - it was the first time my W actually heard my screen name, and the first time I heard hers.

But DS, I thought it was determined that the lines were crooked, not the car ........
Apparently someone at the zoo thought the meerkats had been acting naughty and decided to bring in an *enforcer*.

Anyway. Ho-ly Crap was that fun. Awesome new friends, awesome *already known* friends...(see how skillfully I avoided calling anyone old? ) Thanks for hosting, WH5 and BR, the whole weekend was fabulous...from beginning to end. Even my drive home was fab -- sailed right home....no traffic and no tickets! And then, as I entered my town, BR's *namesake* song began playing on the radio. *sigh* I love that song.

Thank you so much. And it was great to see everyone.

And Dix....those pictures are amazing!

Thank you BR and WH5 - awesome G2G! Great food, great people and thanks so much for inviting us all into your home. It was terrific to meet so many members - everyone is so nice and friendly! It took me two days to get my voice back to normal after all the laughter Friday night!

I'm finally home after a long day on the road - great road trip with K9. She should get home in another hour or so and maybe she'll chime in. K9 and I had a great time with all of you and on our road trip. Sadly, it rained off and on most of the way home but it made for better time since we weren't stopping to take fall color pics every 10 minutes! I'll post some of those later if I can get photobucket to cooperate!

Thanks again BR and WH5 - you guys rock.

We couldn't find the dance place. Kernel and I both agreed we were "funned out" and went back to our motel for some much needed sleep.

Anyway....thank you WH5 and BR for hosting this g2g. I had a great time, met great people, took some great pictures and have much to think about.

It was a honor to meet MH and DS. I will never look at another STOP sign and not be able to laugh again!

Both Kernel and I have realized that Moo will always and forever be known as Moo. His official title should be "Moo the Immortal".

Gonna and NIK.....you are two awesome ladies.

Again...thanks everyone for a great time.

Thank you so much BrokenRoad and WifeHad5 for your wonderful hospitality! This was very well planned and executed. The food was fabulous! I really enjoyed meeting everyone.

I cannot believe those photos from the zoo! They are amazing. I was going through my photos while at the zoo and Mr. DixieDevastated complimented my photo of the gorilla. Now I realize he was patronizing me! I will be selling my camera on ebay and sticking with my day job.

We had such a great time! But I was so tired after all of the dancing I did.

Sorry everyone, we didn't mean to worry you! After we figured out we had driven right by the dance place and started to backtrack, we realized we were too pooped to boogie anyway and just headed to the hotel.

I had a great time meeting all of you, and thanks again to BR and WH5.

MH, I took about 200 pictures that day and you're seeing the ones that were in focus.

You took an awesome gorilla shot and I'm sure there were tons more.

Kernel, your photos are awesome. I especially like the under the bridge shot.

Thanks to BR and WH5 for hosting. It was great meeting everyone, we felt very welcomed by all.

The things I wanted to take away from the G2G:

To know that the food was great and we had enough. (stop laughing and eat some spaghetti!)

To know that everyone had a good time and was able to relax.

It was a good plan but You all made it great.

Love you guys.

gonnabe2016 , by the way, brought some awesome chocolates and now I cant stop eating them

Sorry (kinda.....but not really cause aren't they just AWESOME????)

I counted gonnabe twice

It's better to be counted twice than not counted at all, right?

And I think that club has a new attraction. In addition to the back-up butt dancer, they can now claim to have a *random lady that breaks into your dance circle* to watch for.

OK...big admission... I know my W's username - plainsong (PlainSong? Plainsong?).

I've been suppressing my knowledge as a way to keep myself from searching for her posts, but I really should recognize that I simply am not a stalker.

WRT dancing, Saturday night was the first time we danced swing in public. Ever. Also the first time either of us saw a rock/pop/disco music video from beginning to end.

BR, There was enough food. Just sayin'.... (And, dear readers, BR is a great cook!)

Sisoon,

Don't you feel better now? And good job on not being a stalker .

I loved watching you and your W getting down to the music. So sweet!

About W's name, yup. I feel a lot better, and I really like her name. And I have absolutely no desire to check out her posts.

'Sweet'? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Yes, I am plainsong. No caps - "plain," right?

I really enjoyed the weekend, especially Friday night. I wish I had moved around more and gotten to know even more people - too many riches.

The food was wonderful, BR - especially the spaghetti sauce. I really appreciate the effort that goes into preparing a feast like that.

And Little Turtle - the photos were magnificent. Of the animals, I liked best the tiger, the zebras, and the polar bear. The pictures of the gorilla were magnificent, and very moving. I don't know what anybody else saw, but I saw a lot of grief.

Thanks again to everyone for a great weekend. DS, I really like your dance energy.

OOPS!!! Deepest apologies to DixieDevasted, who actually took the animal photos, and to Little Turtle, for misusing your name. The only excuse I have is that I was feeling warm toward both of you, and apparently assigned the name on the basis of that association. I do know who each of you is and appreciate both of you.

Looking back at the photos I saw the beautiful fall scenery pics from kernel. Thanks so much for sharing them. I saw a few fall colors on our drive to Detroit, but not enough, and the ones you took satisfied that craving.

Again, thanks and apologies to all.

plainsong, I knew you meant Dixie since I didn't post any of my pictures up. They don't compare at all to the awesome shots Dixie's hubby took! I enjoyed talking with you on Friday and watching you and your hubby dance together on Saturday. So cute!

Jumping in to add my opinion that watching Sisoon and plainsong dancing together was one of the sweetest and most touching things that I've seen in a long time. It was pretty awesome.....and made me smile and say "awwwww."
