I have 4 weddings to attend this summer. Yup...4. Anyways I had a couple of simple silk dresses made and one is in a gold (yellow to bronze gold) colour. I cannot find shoes anywhere to match. I do however have a perfect pair of black shoes that I never wear. Has anybody ever had any experience with painting shoes? The shoes that I would like to paint are black, patent, pointy toe flats.

My shoe guy used to carry shoe paint before he retired and closed down last year. I'm sure you can still find it online (and possibly in a larger craft store).

Here's an instructable that looks like it's got good info.

I've never tried that before. Would patent even take the paint? Could you try the dye-able shoes?

Nude colored shoes would work, too.

could you possibly put a black ribbon around your waist (cinch) to have tie it in?

I know that on my side of the world black and gold pairing is quite fashionable as long as you accessorise it right. Mainly depends on how long the dress is :)

Would you be painting them the same color as the dress? I thought that was a fashion no-no...?

I agree with accessorizing in black - belt, big dangly earrings or necklace (depending on the neckline of the dress) and the shoes. Add a shoe clip if they're too dark or plain.

Why not just leave them black? Black and yellow/gold are beautiful together!

I seriously doubt you could get any kind of paint to adhere to patent. Even if it looked good initially, I don't think it would be durable and a couple scuffs here and there would lead to some really odd looking shoes.

How about these, or similar?

eta: I am smitten with these shoes. There is now one less pair in stock, coincidently in my size. . .

Gold is a neutral. Wear whatever color you like with it and accessorize accordingly. I think it would look great with a nude pink, cobalt blue or a dark purple.

I would wear a strappy gold or bronze type sandal/heel.

I painted a pair of shoes long ago. It really didn't turn out as hoped.

dammit, I was hoping it would be an easy thing. The dress is a gold brocade, Asian styling, with little bits of pewter in the binding and buttons. I was looking for a pair of shoes that were in the pewter range. Black does not look right with the dress unfortunately.

Amazon.com to the rescue!

I love Nine West and their sizes are consistent. I rarely shop for shoes anywhere but there, now If you find a style you like, pull it up - it probably comes in other colors. And if you don't like them - free returns!

eta: they have all kinds of styles - Ann Klein, Ivanka Trump, Lauren, many designer names - but since I don't know their sizing but do know Nine West, that are my "go to" shoes -

If your just wanting to wear them a couple times (for the 4 wedding only), it might work. But after a few times of wear the paint will start to crack where the shoe bends.

I had a wedding last year that I needed a pair of silver shoes for. I didn't want to spend any money and had a pair of black patent heels I never wore. I wanted to make them a glittery silver so I lightly sanded them (so the paint would stick), painted them in a coat of white, then did a few coats of a mod podge fairy dust mix. Mine cracked after just one wear but I think that because my mod podge layer was so thick. Just paint probably wouldn't crack so quickly.
