...other than finally allowing myself to see STBXWW for who she really is...

was to cancel all credit cards when we officially separated. I immediately pulled up my three credit reports and cancelled all cards with my name on them. (you should do this if you haven't. i found a joint account i had forgotten about, and it was still active!)

I cashed in my (our) money market account and paid over $13,000 in credit card debt.

Even though the credit cards are considered marital debt, and supposed to be divided 50/50, i most likely would have had to take on a majority of it, since my salary is quite a bit higher than hers.

got an 'attaboy' from my attorney, anyway

I was so relieved as I cut each financial tie. Thank god in my case most of our stuff was seperate...we only had a couple of joint things.

Good for you for getting another thing checked off the shit list.

Good for you. Ouch on the loss, but I suspect it'll be worth it too. Maybe, if you haven't already settled, this will look good for you - well he DID pay off this debt, so you're not entitled to as much somewhere else?

I don't know, but money worries suck either way, so you must be feeling better about having less of them.

Good for you. We only have a mortgage that is joint anymore. I worked so hard at getting us out of debt and we basically are. We each have one credit card with small balances and other than household and insurance we have nothing else as far as debt goes.Wish we had never bought this house 10 years ago.

Would love to do something like pay off debt, but since it is an equal distribution state it would actually hurt me from a strategic perspective, which really sucks! I hate the limbo!
