I think I might have a UTI... does that over counter stuff... AZO work?

I've only ever had 2 UTI's and those were 20 years ago now.

I'm not even sure I have one yet.

1 gallon of cranberry juice diluted with 1 gallon of water. Stay close to the bathroom with all that liquid. Repeat.

I can feel a UTI within 36 hours, about 2 days before the tests can pick it up.

If you have a UTI, and especially if you're not sure that's what it is, see your MD. AZO may relieve the symptoms, like pain and urgency, but it doesn't kill the bacteria. It is something that normally needs antibiotics.

Drinking plenty of water certainly will help. The trouble with UTIs is that although they can go away on their own (so to speak) if they don't, and ascend, you're getting into a mess that may end with kidney infections.

Best just to get it taken care of.

The tried and true method for saving money on expensive drugs and getting rid of that pesky UTI is baking soda. I had a UTI a few months back and didn't want to go to the doctor. I pounded down a glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda, twice a day. UTI was gone within a few days. I have read cream of tartar is just as effective.

Yeah... I would go to the dr if this develops into something.

But I was hoping to ease the symptoms too...

Right now I just have this hint of pain going up after peeing... If you've ever had a UT I that makes sense.

I never heard of the baking soda cure. Does the baking soda taste nasty?

It tastes like alka seltzer, so yeah, it is putrid. :p But it does work, and definitely alleviates the pain.

When I did it I had to have a glass of plain water to wash down because of the taste.

If the UTI is especially bad I would go to the doctor, but if it is the onset and more of a nuisance I would save the money and do a home remedy or OTC.

I have baking soda in the house... I shall give it a try. Can't hurt anyway.

As a physician I've never heard or read of baking soda. Cranberries do work but if you don't like the juice the pills work just as well. Azo only decreases the pain. It does not get rod on an infection. I tell patients if their symptoms aren't better in 48 hours after cramberries and fluids see a doctor. Or go right away if their is fever, vomiting or back pain as that indicates a kidney infection.

There are rumors swirling that raw garlic might be helpful... I'm not sure though.

(I'll tell you in 48 hours.... )

Thanks Dr PJ...

If it is a UTI it's a very mild one right now. I'm still putting out normal volumes of urine... and I'm not really having any pain. No fever, no vomiting and no back pain.

Just a little burn when I pee and I can feel a little sting going back up the ureter... other than that I feel a little cramping in my abdomen... but that could be from my period vs. UTI.

Definitely cranberries pills. Much more concentrated than juice. It will help keep the bacteria from being able to colonize the walls of your bladder.

Also, I used to have chronic UTIs. I had a male urologist who would tell me "Are you sure you're wiping from front to back?" ( )

He wanted me to begin an antibiotic-a-day for life. I said heck no. Finally saw a female nurse who told me to pee immediately after sex, every time, no matter what, and take a cranberry pill a day.

No UTIs since.

there is a supplement called D-Mannose it is similar to the substance in cranberries but much more potent. You can get it at health food stores. Take this now and it will definitely get rid of it sooner. It is just a kind of sugar, but it prevents the bacteria from attaching to the bladder walls.

You might want to try some d- mannose from the health food store. It is a natural sugar and the active ingredient in the cranberry. It causes the bacteria to be washed out instead of adhering to the body tissues.

I wish I'd seen this sooner... I was just near the health food store about an hour ago.

I got the Cranberry Pills from AZO and the Pain stuff too.

I'm drinking gallons of water...

We shall see what happens.
