We leave tomorrow. 9 hours on a bus with 4th and 5th graders. A teacher who has threatened to take our phones away if she catches us talking/texting. Did I mention 9 hours on a bus with 4th and 5th graders?

OMG! You POOR thing.

Do you have some Prozac? They say it's bad form to drink in front of the young ones, but you could pop a little pill to keep from smothering them, right???

Sending strength and peace - you're going to need it.

Just remember it could be worse like 9 hours on a plane with 4th and 5th graders.

YES! The grown-ups! This teacher scares me. During the planning meeting, I felt like I was back in 4th grade.

Oh god. When I saw you were coming to DC, I thought I'd offer to meet you for lunch or something.

Buuuuuut.... you're not worth enduring 4th and 5th graders
(And I'm not sure that your teacher would let you come out to play )

She would never let me come out and play.....lights out at 10PM......and she does room checks.

But if you happen to see a large group of children, and a bunch of adults that look like .....that would be us.

And this is the reason I quit smoking. I was dreading this trip because I knew I wouldn't be able to smoke for most of it.

That would have been bad, bad, bad.

There were other reasons I wanted to quit but this trip was what pushed me to finally do it.

You need to make a survival pack -

- earplugs
- tylenol and/or aleve
- book (will the teacher also have a fit if you use your phone/tablet to read an e-book?)/puzzle book/craft (crochet, cross stitch)
- earplugs
- stress ball (one of those spongy squeeze balls)
-earplugs
- hard candy (to crunch between your teeth when you really want to kill someone)
- did I mention earplugs?

Good luck!!!

Edited to change "alive" to "aleve".... stupid spell checker....

I am very compliant with teachers and rules and the like but the teacher threatening adults is way over the line. It seems like she needs a lesson in humility.

And I am not. I'm very conflicted. I want to be a good example for my GD and the other little girl who will be sharing our room.....but I've considered bringing flashlights so we can stay up late to play and not get caught.

A good example would definitely bring a flashlight and some games...and teach them crazy songs!

The kids have overpowered CD and she was last seen tied to a pillar at the Lincoln Memorial.

I'm the queen of almost-inappropriate songs for kids in that age group. Here are some quick ones , all of them to the same tune. I'll give you the one you probably know first -- and hey! It's locationally appropriate:

Oh, I wish I was a little dirty bird
Oh, I wish I was a little dirty bird
I'd cross the Delaware
Without my underwear
Oh, I wish I was a little dirty bird

Oh, I wish I was a little blade of grass,
Oh, I wish I was a little blade of grass,
Well, along comes a doggy
And he makes me really soggy
Oh, I wish I was little blade of grass

Oh, I wish I was a little bar of soap,
Oh, I wish I was a little bar of soap,
I'd go slippy-slippy-slimy
Over everybody's heiny,
Oh, I wish I was a little bar of soap.

Oh, I wish I was a little piece of glass,
Oh, I wish I was a little piece of glass,
I'd go cutty-cutty-cutty
And make everybody bloody
Oh, I wish I was a little piece of glass.

And this is why Threnody is no longer allowed to chaperone school trips.

Well, here we are. Day two. It took a while, but they finally cut me loose from the Lincoln Memorial. Luckily, a few kind passersby threw some peanuts at me while I was tied up, so nourishment wasn't a problem.

Actually, the kids are all being really good. When I told Jasmine I was proud of her behavior, she said....."Well I want to make sure I can go to NYC next year, soooooo"

Oh well, whatever works, I guess. Right?

So far we've managed to traumatize a McDonalds in NJ, a Subway in DC and the other motel guests in MD just by our enormous presence.

It's going well, I think.

And thank you Threnody, we will be singing a new song tonight.

Oh can't forget the drama. I cant post this on fb so I'll put it here.

There was a parent/teacher scream fight in the middle of the street.

The teacher, in trying to stay professional, walked away from the situation, visibly shaken but otherwise unharmed.

In other news, there is some 4th grade/5th grade cattiness building that could turn ugly.

It seems that the 5th grade parents didn't want to stop at the last souvenir store and were upset that the 4th grade parents got their way. Some of them were complaining loudly enough for some 4th grade parents to hear.

In retaliation, when the 4th grade parents wanted to take the kids for ice cream, this evening....the 5th grade parents said they wouldn't go. Since the rule is, we all go or no one goes.......we didn't go.

Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.

Crying -

If you really want to get banned from any future chaperoning, teach them the song my dad used to sing for us kids:

Casey got hit
with a bucket of ****
And the band played on....

He opened the door
and got hit with some more
And the band played on...

He climbed up a shingle
and broke his perdingle (sp?)
And the band played on...

He <oooof>......

I'm pretty sure there were several more verses, but mom always managed to get to him and elbow him in the stomach at about that point, so that's as much of the song as I know.
