What's the best way to get blood stains off of my carpet?

...and before all the rumors start, they are from my dog. Just a little accident....

I've read that hydrogen peroxide and water will remove it.

Good luck!

Chria, I don't know about carpet, so I'd do a little experimenting in an unnoticeable spot before going for broke on your stain; however, I've never seen anything remove blood better than Greased Lightning.

Greased Lightning is actually a spray-on cleaner...it's usually with the household cleaners vs. laundry products in the stores. A woman I knew had four sons and she was the one that turned me on to it....I guess she'd had a lot of experience with injuries that involved bleeding onto expensive sports uniforms.

I've used it a lot now, and it will even break up old, set-in blood stains. You can see the stains start changing to a green color as the stuff hits them.

You might also try an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle, which is marketed to remove all organic stains and odors...if you don't already know a source, they can be found at the various pet megastores.

Hope this helps and that your dog is doing well!

Make a paste out of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Scrub it into the spot with an old toothbrush and let it sit for a bit.
Sprinkle a bit more peroxide on top, then clean off.

I've used this on our light tan carpeting for everything from blood to mud. It works well.

My daughter used Oxy Clean to take blood out of their carpet from when their dog cut his foot and there were bloody footprints EVERYWHERE! Worked like a charm.

Whatever you do, no not use hot water. Hot water sets blood stains almost permanently.

Hydrogen peroxide. Let it bubble up, and blot. Repeat as necessary. Then rinse with clear water and blot dry.

Wrap the person's body in the carpet and dispose of both at the same time. No need to worry about stains.

As stated above, peroxide, bubble, blot, repeat if necessary, rinse/blot with cold water when done.

Just be careful if your carpet has a bold/dark color, peroxide can lift/pull color and then you have a bleached looking spot, but carpet can be spot colored if this happens, just call an experienced carpet installer/cleaner to do it.

Peroxide for me!
My dog had pancretitis and BOY was in a mess. I did the peroxide and cold water thing- and you'd never know there was a problem. It happened four years ago and we have never had to replace teh carpet.

A friend told me about this, I thought she was crazy until I actually had to try it!

Baby wipes!

We had a girl on her period during a parade at Disney. She was in uniform for hours without access to a bathroom. These are white, dry clean only pants! We used baby wipes and got the blood out pretty quick. I was amazed!
