I am a teacher. This would have been my 4th year in the school. 2 years ago I was cyber-bullied and harassed by a parent. This person was determined to sue the district and get a multi-million dollar cash settlement. This person would tell horrendous lies about teachers not caring that careers could be ruined. 2 years later, 2 court cases(which parent lost), and 5 teachers quitting I was offered a promotion. Perfect timing as this parent's youngest child of 3 was coming to my grade.

I also was dealing with an insecure, disrespectful colleague that had no problem bad-mouthing others .... kind of like my NPD-x. I digress. One of the most difficult folks I have ever worked with.

So, I am offered an incredible opportunity with this promotion within the district, and I get to escape litigious parent and nutty colleague. Plus get a 20% raise, and other amazing perks.

What's my problem? Well, after 4 years one would think people would be wishing me well etc.... Instead I am getting either radio silence or this weird vibe. It hurts my feelings because I thought I was a welcome part of the faculty. Apparently not.

On top of that are the new job stresses, steep learning curve, and no friends yet.

As my kids say, "get over it....you have a good job."

I feel better already just getting this out.

Thanks for listening.

Congratulations on your promotion!!!

Can I ask what you'll be doing now?

As for the weird vibe/radio silence - are you staying on the same campus where you were teaching? And are you now in a supervisory role over your former colleges?

Again - congrats!

Thanks jrc. I am not on campus nor their supervisor.

I was moved over to the professional development department and work out of the district office as an instructional coach. I am also working with other school districts as part of my job. My former building is not one of my schools.

Did not imagine being out of the classroom so soon, but could not pass this up.

My only advice, since you're not working directly with any of your former colleges, is to put your head down - dig in and learn your job and you'll eventually make a new set of friends/colleges.

Speaking as someone who's made more school changes then I care to admit... this is about the only way to handle this.

You'll see, eventually you'll have a new set of friends and you'll have learned your new job too!

I can't imagine ever being out of the classroom. I think I'd miss my crazy kids.

Sounds like there's a dose of jealousy coupled with prior false friendliness. Shake 'em off, Chrys, and don't look back.

Congratulations.

Thanks friends!

I think there may be jealousy and false friendliness/character assassination by nutty colleague.

I know this is a case of the nice karma bus paying me a visit. I will feel all settled soon.
