I recently moved to a townhouse that is literally right behind my job. Its about a football field in distance. The problem is, the area between my house and my office is a fenced wooded area. It IS possible to walk through. But not really feasible to do in a suit/skirt/etc (cant go into the office smelling like off and covered in grass/leaves/dirt... its a short hike, but a hike nonetheless... and fine to take my dog through, but not an option to take to work.)
To get there driving it's 3/4 of a mile (going several blocks around). Which I'd also be fine walking, but its a high traffic area, with no sidewalk (and in some places no grassy area off the road even).
I live in a formerly rural area in the south, and there is a lot of construction going on near my home and job. so hopefully in a year or two there will be sidewalks.
But right now its really hard on my car. I get like 35mpg, but its not a hybrid, and its killing my battery (every where I go is within a few blocks from home, but no pedestrian paths whatsoever).
I open the office (an hour or two before anyone else is there), so riding with someone isn't an option. and biking (again in a suit or skirt) or even taking a golf cart will not work because of the congestion on the streets. the campus/downtown area where i live (which is about 6 miles from where i am) is the only place that is suitable for bikes and pedestrians. I live near the interstate/mall/restaurants/etc.
I love being this close to my job. but i need some suggestions....Me: BS
