I am allergic to cat dander, but my S/O loves cats. He has suggested (and I can't tell if he's serious) that we get this breed. I personally don't think I could live with Golum day in, day out. What do you think?

Awe, I'd love that kitty to pieces!

You even get to (well have to) bathe them regularly because their skin produces an oil that can be quite stinky.

I'm sure the cat's personality would be more of a factor than his/her looks. If it was a total sweetie, you'd come around.

There are breeds that tend to be less allergenic than others. My Maine Coon mut didn't bother my mom at all, but the one I have now pretty much prevent her from entering my home.

Look at its bum! Uuummm, no thank you.

I love kitty's, and I am sure nik is right about the personality thing. I bet these cats do have kick ass personalities 'cause they sure don't have the looks thing going for them.

My Maine Coon mut didn't bother
Hey, tushnurse, I have one of those, too. And, I am very allergic to cats, they can trigger severe asthmatic reactions in me. My bedroom is a cat free zone and whenever I touch Binx I wash my hands. We have had him for 5 years now and I haven't had an asthma attack once!

Awww... me too.... he'd be my *special* little kitty. I'd definitely love him.

Serious question here though if anyone knows - does this breed of cat have high temperature requirements and need cat jackets indoors etc.,?

My S/O says, in a whiney voice, "But....you could buy him the most delightful little outfits." As if.

I didn't read your post all the way through, Lynn; don't get one of these for allergies--they don't have any hair, but they have a very real dander problem. They need to be wiped down daily.

I love naked cats! But for allergies I hear that siberians are a good breed.

Isn't that Scary Cat, one of Grumpy Cat's nemeses?

UNLESS it's the same kitty riding a roomba and chasing a duck while dressed in a shark costume!!

I must admit I'm really curious as to whether any of my cats would ride a Roomba. Plus, I've always wanted one!!

ETA: I seriously almost peed my pants when I saw the shark costume. It sent me running to the bathroom laughing hysterically with tears streaming down my face!

I used to know a guy that had those types of cats. Holding them felt like holding a giant warm peach... a warm peach that purrs when you pet it.

No, I would not own a cat like that. I want a cat to be soft & cuddly. I don't want to be afraid of my pet. I don't want to have nightmares that my pet will possess my soul while I sleep or something. I just want a cute, cuddly kitty cat.

A no from me. I HATE cat hair but I can't imagine tolerating all of the upkeep.

Wouldn't they still have dander? That is flakes of skin, no?

Plus, if I wanted to look at a shrivelled up testicle all day I wouldn't be S/D. If you do get one please call it Testy!!
