I'm surprised we aren't talking about this, already!!

OK, so many casualties, 2 shooters contained, 2 on the loose, six schools on lockdown.

Sending thoughts and prayers to those in the area.

I hadn't heard about this until I saw your post. Lots of conflicting information, as there always is at times like these.

Keeping positive thoughts for those in harm's way.

Lots of conflicting information, for sure. Here's the CNN link: http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/16/us/dc-navy-yard-gunshots/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

I was really shocked, watching the coverage this morning and then returning to it this afternoon, that the death toll had risen from 4 to 13 (including the sone shooter). It just boggles my mind that something like this could happen on a naval base, although the Navy Yard is a real rabbit warren of buildings, offices, and narrow alleyways connecting them. I used to hate to go up there for classes or high-level briefings, and I thank G-d I was able to retire when I did, otherwise it would have been my next work posting. My heart truly goes out to the families of all the victims; no matter what the shooters' reasons are, the victims didn't deserve this.

Very sad. Also sad how many people get shot near that neighborhood all the time in gang related violence and it doesn't even hit the news. I hate how desensitized our society has become.

We live about 30 miles out from DC and I was watching the coverage of this all day. Just awful. My husband is in the military and works at a different base in the area, and there were wild rumors about shootings at a few other bases. It was a scary day.

Related to what Amazonia said....I found one of the saddest moments to be when the doctor at the hospital some of the victims were taken to was talking about how used to gun shot wounds they are. Unfortunately they see many of them. Obviously not always from this type of situation, but wow.

It's coming out this morning that he was being treated by the VA for mental illness, including 'hearing voices' (Schizophrenia).

Yikes.

Our daughter and youngest grand daughter were on lock down on Bolling (JBAB) ALL day. They had at one point reports of gunfire on Bolling just a few blocks from her home.

Our son in law works on Ft Meyer and couldn't get home until about 8PM last night.

VERY stressful day for our family (we live in AK)
