SO and I worked at my house this weekend, trying to get the jobs done to put it on the market.

SO has worked so hard in laying tile in the kitchen and is now starting on building a new wooden porch over the disintegrating concrete stoop. I am not a person who can sit by and watch while someone else does all the hard work.

So I helped dig post holes with a twisting post hole digger, and I helped load 50lb bags of quickcrete in the trunk of my car. He kept telling me I didn't have to do it, but I was determined to help.

Today I am paying. I have let my exercise routine lapse in the last year which has not done me any favors. Everything aches - neck, shoulders, knees, back.

The good news is that we got two of 6 posts set yesterday for the porch. Now to set the other posts and start laying on the decking. At least the weather is supposed to be nice this week.

No point in this other than I'm feeling pitiful and looking for sympathy.

Think of it this way - you started back on your exercise routine and got something productive done in the process.
No pain - no gain... and you are getting back on track physically.

meh, I'm not sure I'm even convinced by that...but it was worth a shot!

I need a youngster like you around my house!

Lifting bags of concrete is no picnic.

Impressed!

I'm 52, but I feel more like 82 today. If I had maintained my fitness routine (cardio and weight lifting) I probably wouldn't feel so bad.

The upside is that I have some real sweat equity in the house and the changes are going to help it sell (I HOPE!)

Look at it as sweat equity in your body too. Use it to spur a renewed exercise program.

I helped my parents close up the lakehouse on Saturday (lots of hauling and cleaning and more hauling), and on Sunday a friend and I rebuilt my front porch steps.

I am BEAT. Could hardly move today- a combination of stiff and sore, and a hip that needs to be replaced.

I try to console myself by remembering that all that work burns calories LOL.

But I'm with you- I cannot do what I used to do anymore. And it sucks.

I worked on building a deck all July and August and by the end of the summer I felt some muscles! Gotten flabby again so I guess I need to buy some lumber and start another project. Good for you!

Just think - you wouldn't have been able to do that much without your previous exercise regime under your belt.

I know what you mean, though... this slowing down stuff sucks! But it's a good excuse for more wine, hot baths and chocolate.
