VENT Warning- VENT Warning - VENT Warning

I love my job, what I do. I am really quite good at it. However the majority of what I do is a pilot program, and being as such there were not hard set rules at the begining, and as time has gone on they have garbled them, changed them, and basically made it next to impossible for my group to be successful. In addition they have benchmarks they want us to meet, but have erroneous reporting tools for said benchmarks. One of which has a huge impact on patients satisfaction.

We have asked for said report since APRIL, Yah I said APRIL. Yesterday with much fanfare, and oohing and ahhing of the bosses, leaders, and computer people the new report finally was released (of course not until 4pm) so none of us Care Managers could really dig in and disect the data until today. This report is so wrong, and is accompanied with yet another rule change that I cant even begin to deal with the data, and correct it.

Now my patients that I have worked with thoughout the year, are going to be financially effected if they don't get it right, and the deadline to have this correct information to the powers that be is guess.... Just guess......Next Friday.....Oh and the Boss is OOT until Tuesday.

I am thouroughly frustrated. I am packing up going home, and spending tomorrow on my computer, making sure my folks have what they need documented. I really just feel like banging my head on a wall. It may be more effective than what I am trying to accomplish right now.

This is exactly what I do for a living these days, develop reports from the EMR for finance and clinical folks.

If they have anything resembling proper procedures in place, the report would not be released until someone from the appropriate community (Finance or Clinical) was offered the chance to validate it.

Of course, my experience has been that the clinical people at the director level are "too busy" to do that validation, until suddenly, it's out, and it's wrong. Then it's somehow my fault.

I feel your pain. The best validations happen when the clinical people below director level are involved, but sometimes (most times) medical practices block that communication.

Take care of yourself. There's a great future out there. It won't come to you; you have to go to it.

Thanks for the warm words and commiseration. The funny thing is I had a very simple reasonable way to cross check this data and correct it but because my boss has only ever been in clinical settings not financial she doesn't get it.

I wish our IT guy was that contiencious Trusted. He quite honestly is more concerned with being right and doesn't listen to us when tell him the way the data is being pulled is flawed because he's not clinical he doesn't understand. However an RNthat helps him out is awesome because she understands both sides of it.

PJ- sorry that happened now you are having to develop/implement action plans for improvement? Blech!!!
Been there worked in a CM / UR dept that got a CMS/state ding for not offering choice for Hhc, and hospice.
