I really have no frame of reference as to what is acceptable/standard or not.

I work a part time job that can be as little as 10 hours up to 40. I make $11 an hour, been there three years. I do: some quick books, and other paperwork, cleaning of the building, care of the dogs (it is a dog daycare/boarding business) intake, answer phones, decorate the front office for holidays, laundry, dishes, prepare meals and if needed meds for dogs, and am responsible for the "property" when the owner needs to leave for errands, appointments, etc. My main function is that she trusts me to leave the business with when she needs to.

I get a schedule usually Sunday night for that week, there is always a start time, but never an ending, so I could work 3 hours or 12 (no overtime in my state until over 12 hours), I can also NOT leave the building for lunch, so there is never any true down time (I called the state and this is legal due to the type of business). I do not deem how long I work, the owner does, I do not try to stay longer than she wants, usually I am ready to leave but she decides to run an errand, or what have you and I stay. I am usually ok with this, I am a hard worker, who feels when I am at work, I am at work, so that is ok. What bothers me is that the owner talks about her finances all the time, how little the business brings in especially after she pays payroll (I am not the only employee, just the longest one).

Is it ok for employers to talk about finances in this manner?

We have a tendency to think the love offered us is a reflection of our worth and value. But in actuality,it's a reflection of the person that is giving it.We love out of who WE are-not because of who the receiver is.At least in terms of real love.TSMF
