...is back. I live in an urban oak forest. This week an owl has been singing somewhere nearby, starting at around 4:00 am.

I *love* hearing them in the city. They are so amazing.

And I bet the squirrels are worried.

That's cool FaithFool. You should go out on an Owl Prowl and try to find him

Owling is a lot of fun . You should look up your local birding club.

I have an owl too! (I'm "technically" in the county, but still actually city.)

Was laying in bed last night reading, and heard it. I was like, "OMG! QS!!! We have an OWL!!!!"

He woke up and was like, "Yeah. I know. Heard it the other day...zzzzzzz...."

Killjoy.

It's the second time in my life I've heard one.

Coolest thing in the world.

Don't know if we have owls or not. Haven't heard any. However we have hawks, coyotes, groundhogs, rabbits, deer, skunks... and frogs.

We have 2. They "sing" together, call and response. They usually appear in Feb, and also start "singing" around 4am. I can hear them from our bed. my late night friends!

"Honey! I found a rat! Get over here!!"

@ Sazzy, we have a fabulous sanctuary that does lots of nature events for families and kids. I will check it out when I'm done with school.

I have one too. I hear him at 4:00 AM when I let the puppy out to wet (don't worry Mr. Tiny Bladder weighs 70 lbs now so won't be carried off). I live in an area with practically no trees, no abandoned buildings so I can't figure out where he stays in the daytime.

I have them on my property. I've never seen them, but I certainly hear them. They must be close to my house cause I have woken up because of the whooting. I love the spring and fall when I can leave my windows open and go to sleep, but the damn owls interfere with my slumber. But since the house I bought was vacant for many years the property was overrun with Chipmunks and field mice. Between my dog chasing them and the owls hunting I've noticed a decline over the last year. Last winter my house was overrun with field mice. This year I have not seen any. I guess I'll see about the chipmunks this spring. Hopefully the owls will hunt them and reduce the population. The little bastards have destroyed all of my stone retaining walls with their burrows.

Mice are very destructive critters, despite their cuteness...

Go get em, owls!

Where I live, there are record numbers of snowy owls this year! But I think I'm the only person in the whole state whooo hasn't seen one.

We heard a nest full of babies last year, and saw Mom or Dad. We have lots of them. One of the many reasons we have indoor cats!
