Zeno's paradox, as an engineer joke (at the expense of a mathematician and a physicist).

The dichotomy paradox leads to the following mathematical joke. A mathematician, a physicist and an engineer were asked to answer the following question. A group of boys are lined up on one wall of a dance hall, and an equal number of girls are lined up on the opposite wall. Both groups are then instructed to advance toward each other by one quarter the distance separating them every ten seconds (i.e., if they are distance d apart at time 0, they are d/2 at t=10, d/4 at t=20, d/8 at t=30, and so on.) When do they meet at the center of the dance hall? The mathematician said they would never actually meet because the series is infinite. The physicist said they would meet when time equals infinity. The engineer said that within one minute they would be close enough for all practical purposes.

Take care of yourself. There's a great future out there. It won't come to you; you have to go to it.

Q: What is the definition of an engineer?
A: Someone who solves a problem you didn't know you had, in a way
you don't understand.

Q: When does a person decide to become an engineer?
A: When he realizes he doesn't have the charisma to be an undertaker.

Q: How can you tell an extroverted engineer?
A: When he talks to you, he looks at your shoes instead of his own.

Q: How do you drive an engineer completely insane?
A: Tie him to a chair, stand in front of him, and fold up a road map the wrong way.

You might be an engineer if....

you take a cruise so you can go on a personal tour of the engine room.

in college you thought Spring Break was metal fatigue failure.

at an air show you know how fast the skydivers are falling.

you can type 70 words per minute but can't read your own handwriting.

you comment to your wife that her straight hair is nice and parallel.

you see a good design and still have to change it.

you spent more on your calculator than you did on your wedding ring.

you still own a slide rule and know how to use it

your wife hasn't the foggiest idea of what you do at work.

you've already calculated how much you make per second.

you've tried to repair a $5 radio.

I liked Windows 7. I don't want apps on my desktop of laptop and I certainly don't want the computer changing programs on a whim - or a swipe of the mouse. And where are the accessories. I can't even find a calculator to do simple calculations.

Not funny....but I am humbled by the knowledge that I walked the same sidewalks as he did, sat in the same lecture halls he did, took the same classes he did....and quite likely had some of the same professors --- we were on the campus 30 years apart...and some of my professors were quite old

It is a known fact that all electronic circuits only work because of the magic smoke which is carefully contained in the tiny components mounted on the circuit boards.

Which is why I had the discussion today with an auto mechanic about "Oh, no! You let the smoke out!"

Once the smoke is let out, it no longer works.

I build radio transmitters and receivers as a hobby. We also refer to that initial power-up as the smoke test.

Take care of yourself. There's a great future out there. It won't come to you; you have to go to it.
