What do you make of the missing Malaysian Airlines plane? It is pretty weird; how can a plane go missing and nobody knows anything? No wreckage, nothing?

Sounds like foul play. Also, the ocean's a preeeeeeetty big place. I was surprised they couldn't find it at first, but I think that considering how long it was off official radar, there's probably needle-in-haystack odds going on for finding something.

Years ago a plane crashed in Colorado Springs. it went in nose first and was buried in the earth. You could not see it. If this plane went in nose first at a high rate of speed maybe the same thing happened.

I think they're saying now it was intentionally diverted, hijacked.

I just do not understand people waning to hurt, or not caring that they hurt, others in this way.

I also think it's pretty obvious that we are dealing with something intentional. Though, I don't know what the exact intent would have been. I doubt it was just to take down a plane. IMO it was deliberate, but something went awry with the "plan". It's hard to say what the intended destination or target may have been. And we may never know.
I can not even begin to imagine the agony the families of those passengers are experiencing.

People at my job think it is grounded somewhere. At least three people said they think the plane was hijacked, diverted, and hidden somewhere. At first I thought it was a silly conspiracy theory one guy mentioned, but then 2 more people said the same thing and I was asking: "ok, is this theory on the news, or something?"

I think at this point it is naive to hold out hope that the people are still alive. :(

News said they believe it was an intentional change of direction, but could have been pilot trying to turn around... They also say it was pinging off a satellite, which gave it something like a 23000(?) Mile radius - which is a huge area.

With all the satellite imagery we have it seems like we (as in the world, collectively) should have some images of the area at the time it potentially started to go off course? I feel like we're always being told that satellites are everywhere, google earth sees us getting our morning paper while wrapped in a towel, "tour the Taj Mahal from your desk at lunch!" and all that. It's too bad nothing was saving an image at the right moment.

If you search The aviation Herald you can keep up with developments with folks who have insider knowledge of the industry. They have the timeline and relevant information tracked in one place. There is of course controversy and difference of opinion, just like here. I found that website to be a balanced source of information coupled with opinion.

For those who don't want to know about daily airline "incidents" which are tracked there, I don't recommend reading the site.

It reminds me a bit of the USGS site for real time earthquakes. I will say that I take comfort in the fact that there seems to be on average 10 incidents/day, isn't too bad when you consider the number of flights taking off and landing through the world as a whole.

It sounds like the premise for a SCi fi/ thriller movie. Reminds me of Lost.

Now they are saying that the plane was doing tactical movements to avoid satellites and radar... Honestly, I am not sure how verifiable some of this information is. Where the hell is Mulder and Scully?!

I am thinking that this sounds a lot like "Lost".

But seriously, how can a country lose a freaking airplane??!! And it could be anywhere from the middle of the Indian Ocean to Turkmenistan. That is a HUGE area!

I feel so badly for the relatives of the passengers and crew. The Malaysian government and airline are giving them lousy information. They have been complaining from the beginning that they have to hear things from the news and internet because the airline is telling them nothing.

Hell, the WSJ broke the fact that the airplane flew for several hours after the transponder was turned off while the airline was still saying it went down shortly after AND asking several countries to help search the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand. So, IMO, they either had their head up their ass or were lying out their ass.

I really hope the families of the loved ones on the plane get some real answers.

I don't believe the public is being told the truth at all about this. There is something that isn't right about the whole thing.

If the plane was hijacked don't you think that they would have contacted someone by now with their demands or why.

It's all very odd.
