That's considered moderate vitamin D deficiency. Usually if your level is below 10 your doc will order more blood work. Some docs would at your level (10-20). They usually check calcium, phosphorous, alkaline phosphorylase, parathyroid hormone, electrolytes, BUN, creatinine, and tissue transglutiminase antibodies. Sometimes they do X-rays if you have bone pain.

If you have celiac disease make sure you are staying gluten free.

Are you taking a D3 supplement?

This is extremely common and almost epidemic levels. Get some D3 supplements if your Dr doesn't prescribe some. You need 20 minutes of direct sunlight a day, to keep your levels normal if you don't drink milk.

I was shocked that I had low levels. Even in the summer. Keeping levels up helps with overall achiness and improves mood

These are the unintended consequences of all of our sunscreen products and avoiding milk (the calories you know). And basically you have to live at a latitude even with San Antonio to rely on just El Sol.
