So my renter is out. Left me with a boatload of heavy furniture, a huge BBQ, old bikes, trash, mold, cat pee all over.

I texted her what to do with her stuff. She told me her meth-addicted xh would pick it up. Not my preferred choice to deal with him... Did not happen, no show all week. So I texted her again. She told me to donate the furniture and trash the rest, wanted me to have the BBQ hauled away with the trash collector I had hired. I told her no, I won't pay to have YOUR trash hauled away.

No word from her since last week on who would pick up all the junk. I told her it needs to be gone by Friday night. Still no word. So I turned to Freecylce and craigslist and gave it away today so that I can start the repairs on the deck that are needed. Never mind she only paid rent until 03/15, owes me 1500$ by now in utilities, destroyed the carpets etc. ... i did not realize I was free storage as well.

Tonight her meth-addict xh shows up wanting 'his' stuff. I told him, too late. He got mad. He apparently had told her last week that he was coming by today to get 'his' stuff. Sorry, your xw never communicated with me. I showed him the text where she asked me about trashing the BBQ as of tomorrow morning. Not a word that he would stop by.

These people knew for 90 days that they had to leave and that their stuff had to go. I asked about the BBQ many times and told her it needed to be gone. xh was here 2 weeks ago to pick up stuff. Seriously, you expect me to put up with your stuff beyond the day you paid rent? I gave her a week of grace period beyond her last day of occupancy to get her stuff out of the house. And now she makes me deal with him? If he shows again, I call the cops.

Sorry your renter put you through so much drama. Hopefully now that the ex-meth head knows the abandoned property is gone he will stay away and leave you alone.

What a horrid experience. Hope you can continue to repair and reclaim your home.

Ugh! At least you know you are almost done with this nonsense. I am sorry it continues to be a huge ordeal!

Sit. Feast on your life.

Well hopefully the people from Craiglists get good use of the stuff!

Keep copies of that communication about the stuff with your renter just in case though.

I live in a 3 bedroom house by myself now. I got used to having a second income until I kicked the second income out. I had thought about getting a roommate but decided not having HBO and lawn service was less of a headache.

I'm sorry for your troubles. Hopefully some of the items they left behind will go to someone who really needs it!

And I quoted what cayc said because I am an avid Judge Judy watcher. Even thought you don't think someone would come after you to recover abandoned items -- think again! Safe guard your text message exchanges for as long as possible.

When we had to do a military move, we rented our house out. When the renters moved out, they left 8 large trailer loads of crap that we had to haul to the dump. 8 trailer loads that we had to pay by the pound. That money does not include the brand new doors we put in before they moved in that had to be replaced because someone had a bad temper. Or the double door refrigerator they took when they left. Or the brand new stove they never cleaned which took my mother hours to get back to some semblance of presentable. Or the 3 coats of primer and 3 coats of paint it took to cover up the horrific color they painted all the walls that made the house glow in the dark through the windows when the lights were out.

After our experience with them, my husband and I spent every weekend for a year fixing all their damage and making the house look nice and then sold it because we knew we could NEVER deal with tenants again.

I seriously don't know how people deal with this crap as a source of income.

Oh, and did I mention that we were trying to be nice because they were relatives of our neighbors so we didn't ask for a deposit and we only charged the amount of our monthly mortgage payment...that was a heck of a lesson for us.
