LCB's first AP drove a VW Beetle. (because even though she is 40 and fucks married men, she is still cool and hip and christ, there has to be SOMETHING interesting about her) ANYWAY, I would love your ideas of something I can think of when I see this distinctive vehicle. Skankenstein is the first thing that comes to mind and then I think what a pathetic POS she is and then I think how great things are going for me, but THAT is more thinks than I'd like! There are two I pass on my commute each day, so I am dealing with this a LOT. It's been a long week so maybe this doesn't make as much sense as I'd hoped when I started typing.

You know the game that people play; whenever a VW beetle passes, the first one to see it punches the other one in the arm? Well, imagine punching the OW in the face when you see the beetles.

For you, they're no longer "Beetles".

They're CRABS!

HERPIES on her love bug...

I'm pretty sure hers is a "Dung Beetle".

I second yelling "slug bug" and envisioning sucker punching OW in the face.

volks- people's
wagon- car

The point of the original VW beetle, IIRC, was to make a cheap car the average person could afford.

So think on how this cheap ride is driving a cheap ride. doesn't take much for someone to start her motor.

Additionally, the early versions had few if any changes over the decades. The logic was so the parts were interchangeable from year to year. You could take a part from a '63 VW bug and use it in a '75 bug and vice versa.

The HW driving the VW...she's interchangeable with any other "people's ride".

OMG-you guys are cracking me up!!! I love all the suggestions (cheap ride in a cheap ride--LOL'd so loud my boss poked her head out of her office).

It hit me on my way home the other night that they kind of look like pods and since Skankenstein came into my life, all sorts of new shit has happened soooo, when I see one now, I just think "SEED POD" and go straight to being grateful for all the growth and change. I know! I know! boring bordering on lame but it works for me and the totally weird thing? neither of the ones usually parked on my way to work were there today!!!

I think in your original post you mentioned that the AP ended up with too much head space.... so I would try a different tactic entirely, which is to work harder to NOT associate the VW Beetle with her at all.

It's hard I know because these triggers seem hard wired into bringing up awful thoughts and feelings instantaneously.

I worked to try to re-associate triggers with new things so I could burn a different pathway in my brain that wasn't straight to pain.

How about something more along the lines of calgon's suggestion "bug" - squish? I'm thinking the whole insect concept deserves further exploration and study! See VW beetle: think about bugs. bug, beetle, insect, bee, fly, butter fly, dragon fly, let your mind wander into the realm of biology and away from relationship drama and people. You could find yourself thinking about fly fishing and the relationship between aquatic insects and trout. And you might want to take a vacation on a lake this summer. Or dung beetles and recycling of organic matter in the desert. And maybe you need to get some compost for your garden.

Work harder to take the trigger and turn it to a new, positive thought that is interesting to you and relevant to your new life.
