Last night during some banter with my kiddos, I used the word 'scuz'.

Like "Ewwwww - she is a scuz'.

Got this look from both kids:

Neither had any clue what I was talking about. I said, you know like if someone is scuzzy? dirty?

They never heard that before and said it must of been an 'eighties' word.

Have you ever baffled your kids with old lingo?

Apparently, saying "Gyp!" when you get a way smaller piece than everyone else!

Me: Hey, why'd I get the small piece?? Gyp!!!!

DS: Omg, Mom! That term is so culturally pejorative! I can't believe my own mother just said that! Omg! **rushes off to tumblr to tell his followers all about his culturally offensive mother**

That word was such a normal part of my childhood I actually had to google it to figure out that it was referring to Romani Gypsies being stereotyped as thieves and scammers. Who knew?

Reading "Dynamite" magazine.
Worksheets at school were "Mimeographed".

And Slim Pickins riding a nuclear warhead like a bucking bronco in "Dr. Strangelove."

lol

I'm a child of the 80s so I remember a bunch of the ones already mentioned.

My mom says something that used to crack me up when I was a kid...

"Heavens to Murgatroyd!!!"

Still don't know what it means but usually it followed one of us kids doing something incredibly stupid or dense.

You just need a child of the 60s to let you know that's Snagglepuss:

I loved Snagglepuss!

Please tell me I'm not the only one who watches Dancing With the Stars and giggles everytime they introduce Peta Murgatroyd. She's an amazing dancer and I love her, but I always hear "heavens to murgatroyd!" in Snagglepuss's voice.
