Oh, I just love those. I've never had an infestation any place that I've lived around here, so when I see one crawl up from the drain now and again, I simply smash and repeat as necessary.

They like humid places, like bathrooms or wet towels thrown on the floor.
One night I was sleeping and felt something like a tickle on the side of my eye near my cheek. It was a silverfish crawling on my face! I flicked it off in horror and it went in my pillow somewhere. I couldn't find it, couldn't sleep, threw my pillow outside and slept in the basement on the couch but it took me forever to calm down and fall back asleep after that.

Sprinkle Borax around the edges of the floors (or boric acid) and they will not survive in your house. Many other things (fleas, roaches, etc,) will also die.

Not borax! Boric acid is toxic to children and pets! Its a common misconception that borax is safe and green, but Google it... its not! What is safe is diatomaceous earth, make sure its food grade and not the stiff used in swimming pools. You can find it at a natural food store. It works the same as borax, and it's non-toxic! Best of luck to you!

Thanks CG! Yeah I saw the borax suggestion on google, but was afraid with the kids and cats. Though I have only seen one in our master bath, I figure if I only treat that bathroom that they will simply move on to the other bath or kitchen. Sigh
H suggested we put borax in the basement near the sump, which is always damp this time of year even with the dehumidifier. It's enclosed so the kids/cats couldn't get to it there.
We used to have house centipedes but haven't seen them in a while. We let them be (unless I saw one and it met with a timely squishing death) as they eat spiders and pretty much couldn't be eradicated with pesticides. NOW I read that they also eat silverfish... should I be longing for a reinfestation of centipedes?!?! Oy Vay!

They also like to eat books and paper... we have them in the bathroom and on the "sun porch" where we actually keep all our books.
We just squash each one as they appear.
One crawled in my shirt the other day when we were moving stuff from old bedroom furniture to new bedroom furniture. My FWSO thought I'd lost my mind with all my flapping and screaming.

I've never had an issue with silverfish, just wash them back down the drain or squish it. Now centipedes send me shrieking and if a waterbug is even in the vicinity I will run. One crawled up my leg when I was in the shower at 8 years old. I've been terrified of them ever since.
