My Dad asked my mom to marry him after 3 dates. She wouldn't say yes for another year. He kept asking. They were together over 20 years. Not 70 years but a good long time.
TG and I had the exclusivity talk after about 2 months. It was not 'long term relationship' talk. it was only a sexual monogamy talk. Somewhere around 6 months we started having talks about the long term situation.
I was feeling fairly strongly that we were headed to a LTR when we became sexually intimate but that's not what exclusivity meant for either of us.
I do know that TG quit seeing a gal he had been dating casually before our first date. I think he was exclusive from the git go.
But that's just a lot of water
Underneath a bridge I burned
And there's no use in backtracking

I don't see the problem with going "exclusive" quickly. What exactly are you risking? If things go south, you can become UNexclusive immediately by accepting a date with someone else.
Marriage is not nearly so quick and easy to get out of.

"Marry in haste, repent at leisure"
... has been around since the 1600s.
Haven't heard anything about exclusivity, though.

Married in haste, we may repent at leisure.
